You mean no. 2 here, right?

I couldn't see anything at this location in Google earth and its images are fairly recent (Feb 26, 2009)

I meant NICE-Hosur road only. NICE-bannerghatta was not visible in GE, I'll mark it.

They don't look like flyovers, they are very narrow. It seems they are mainly supposed to be there for non-motorized vehicles or 2-wheelers.

At no. 3 ? (I have already marked underpass at 1)

i think you got the wrong image here. i meant along orr. seems to be orr - puttenahalli intersection. google satellite image clearly shows construction there.

yes, i meant #2. it is possible that even if it is a feb image, it may not be recent enough. these magic boxes are completed within a few months (<3 months).

you marked nice-hosur road as under construction. it is completed.

ya, i guess 2 lane elevated structure. but many roads at either side of it don't seem metalled. you can see some them metalled. anyway, it's your choice to mark them.

yes, i meant #3 junction.

so, ya both #1, #2 & #3 all have underpasses.

Google has updated its images recently, so it will take some more time to add updates to this map. Now I will have to scan the city again for new constructions . Same thing happened with Mumbai also. Google updated its images just 2 days after I made Mumbai's map. I had to scan whole of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai again then .

I have updated the Bangalore's flyovers map and list. The number of flyovers has increased to 42 now from 28 before after google earth's recent updates.

One doubt is left.

I can see something at this point in Google earth. Is it a flyover under construction?

AK-91, thats the KadirenahaLLi Underpass , that's under construction.

Also, to add to the list, An underpass is under construction on the BP Wadia Road and KR Road junction. Its called the "Tagore Circle Underpass."

Was not able to figure out, how to post the map directly , here's the link.

Are you missing the under construction elevated road on the Tumkur road (NH4)? i.e., in Grids A1 and B1.

It is an elevated road in Tumkur Road, just like BETL on Hosur Road. It is in NH4, between Goraguntepalya (Ring Road junction) and Nelamangala. Tumkur road is being developed as a six lane one with two lane service roads on either side.

The elevated road is about 4.3 km and is a four lane one.. The project also includes a flyover at the Nelamangala-Kunigal road junction and six grade separators - Chikkabidarakal, Madavara, Adakimaranahalli, Dasanapura, Arasinakunte and Sondekoppa Road.

Not sure about the present status. As per a news report dated July 09 in Bangalore Mirror, about 73% of the work was completed and the elevated road would be ready by March 2010.

I had driven through this stretch about an year back, when I had been to Bangalore International Expo and Convention Center in Nelamangala near the Nice Road Grade Separator. That time piers had been u/c and it was a mess driving through the stretch. I used to take 1 hour to reach Yeswantpur from Nelamangala.

Thanks Sudheesh. All these flyovers except the elevated road are lying outside my map . I made this map carefully after looking at the various flyover projects of Bangalore. At that time there was no visible construction on Tumkur road or NICE. But they updated images few weeks after I made the map. It is now not possible to extend the map from north or west side. I will have to make a new map later in future to adjust these new projects.

I have updated the list. Just check it whether the names are correct or not. Also give the name of the flyover between Madanayakhalli and Arishinkunte. Many of the names you gave could not be recognized by google maps and earth (maybe due to spelling error).

Here is a part of the list. You may give proper names to these flyovers.

Can someone let me know, what is the difference between a 'flyover' and a 'grade separator'?

Grade Separator is a generic term. As the name denotes, it separates the traffic in different grades/levels smoothly, without a need of any signal.

‘Flyover’ is a kind of separator where a separation is made by the help of a bridge/flyover which goes above the junction. There could be different legs/arms of the flyover to weave out traffic coming from different directions. Examples are Hebbal, Domlur grade seperators.

‘Underpass’ is another kind of grade separator wherein the path is made by digging the earth beneath the road level. ‘Mekhri Circle underpass is an example.

@Abhishek, I am not sure about the place names in Bangalore, esp the local ones, even though I may be driving through those regions. And I know well only the East and North Bangalore.

Bangalore roads: The year ahead

Bangalore roads: The year ahead
Bangalore, Dec 28, DHNS:

Year 2010 is slated to witness many changes for Bangalore traffic. The first half will be challenging as more flyovers and underpasses will begin. Underground portion of the metro rail work will also start and BBMP will begin work on 11 signal free corridor.

The second half will be important as most of the flyovers and underpasses taken up in 2009 will be thrown open for public use. There would be more men on ground to manage vehicular movement as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will give 600 men to assist the traffic police till the project is completed.

In the new year, the traffic police have resolved to coordinate better with civic agencies to minimise inconvenience to public, bring in further improvement in road users’ behaviour by launching campaigns with educational institutions and other offices with the involvement of NGOs, give better training to policemen on ground, and take stern action against traffic violators, besides adopting a zero tolerance attitude.

The number of traffic signals will come down drastically as more flyovers, underpasses and over bridges are to be opened in 2010. The foundation stone for a traffic training and road safety institute will be laid at Thanisadra which will take one year to be functional. The number of pelican lights and blinkers will also be increased next year.

Electronic City expressway almost ready

Bangalore Bureau

THE FAST LANE: The 10-km elevated expressway to Electronic City is expected to ease traffic on Hosur Road in Bangalore once it is inaugurated.

BANGALORE: With work on the much-awaited Hosur Road Elevated Expressway almost complete, motorists commuting to Electronic City can soon look forward to faster and signal-free travel to work and back home on the 10-km expressway stretching from Bommanahalli to Electronic City.

Though the date for the official inauguration of the elevated expressway, built at an estimated cost of Rs. 880 crore, has not been finalised, a senior official of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) told The Hindu here that the access-controlled expressway will be thrown open to traffic soon.

“The expressway is almost ready. But, we can’t say when it will be inaugurated. But, it will not take long (for the expressway to be thrown open to traffic,” he said.

Officials are confident that motorists would take less than 20 minutes to cover the distance between Bommanahalli — just after the Central Silk Board Junction — and Electronic City against the one hour it now takes during peak hours.

The existing road, which is part of the National Highway 7 is choked with not only vehicles plying between Bangalore city and Electronic City but also trucks and other vehicles bound for Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Work on the four-lane expressway began in June 2006 after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone. It was originally scheduled to be completed in 24 months.

The four-lane expressway will run above the six-lane existing highway. The median dividing the traffic had been completed and the lanes too had been marked along a good portion of the expressway. Streetlights had been fixed along the road and personnel were found testing the lights on Sunday.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Praveen Sood said he had heard that the work on the expressway had been completed. He added that he was not aware of the date of its inauguration.

“Nobody has told us when it will be inaugurated. There is a need to introduce certain changes in the traffic rules ahead of the inauguration,” he said.

However, Mr. Sood favoured an early inauguration of the expressway as it would ease the burden on other roads in the area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Bangalore East, Muthanna, who is the jurisdictional Deputy Commissioner of Police for traffic, said that he was yet to be consulted about the likely date of inauguration.

Meanwhile, at least two other traffic infrastructure projects in the city are said to have been completed and awaiting formal inauguration. “I understand that the work on Wheeler Road Flyover and Horamavu Underpass has also been completed. They can be inaugurated anytime,” Mr. Sood said.
