Will they expand the other side too to 4 lanes? Or will they use 2 of the lanes on the 4-laned side as 'floating lanes' and route traffic as required by placing cones on the lane markings?

That's going towards Yelahanka Police Station/ Yelahanka New Town/ Doddaballapur main road.

The railway line connects, Bangalore to Yelahanka . From there it further connects to Doddaballapur and Chickaballapur. North bound trains to Delhi, Ajmer, etc take this route. Also Hyderabad Garib rath takes this route.

Concrete hope for roads ruined by Metro work

Quote:
Bangaloreans may get a small reward for their patience with the horrible driving conditions below the pillars that support the Namma Metro track.

It is learnt that following the completion of Phase One of the project, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), in a joint effort, will build concrete roads below the pillars of the Namma Metro track. The roads will get ‘white topping’, a concrete layer of 150 mm thickness.

According to BBMP officials, the initial efforts between the two agencies has yielded results by way of expression of interest by both parties to carry forth with the white topping roads in place of the bitumen stretches along nearly 14 arterial roads that are currently under construction for the Metro project. “We have decided to have concrete roads wherever the Metro construction is taking place. The initial rounds of talks have yielded some good results with both of us expressing the need for the concrete roads,” informed a highly placed BBMP official.

It appears that the BBMP has now taken the initiative on account of the agreement between the BMRCL and the BBMP to have a 50:50 cost sharing for the road restoration projects. As a result, the agreement will ease the financial burden on the BBMP to concertise these roads. The estimates to have concrete roads as per the Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA) is placed at Rs 1,150 per square metre as against the bituminised tar rates of Rs 890. With the involvement of the BMRCL, the costs will reduce to Rs 550 per sq metre for the BBMP, if the CMA rates are taken as the base for concreting the roads. Earlier, the BBMP was considering taking up a pilot project in the City by constructing concrete stretches at 25 important junctions in the City. However, the Palike appears to have taken the proposal a step further, by deciding on “white topping” the roads. It is stated that the minimum service life of any concrete stretch is expected to be around 30 years against five for a bitumenised tar stretch. However, before laying concrete, the Palike will have to ensure that separate utility ducts are provided for the various civic agencies, like the BWSSB, BESCOM and BSNL, as indiscriminate road cutting is not possible on concrete roads.

Ten major roads that are currently under Metro construction:

NGEF; K R Road; CMH Road; Kanakapura Road; South End Circle/ R V Road; R V Road from Rajalakshmi to City Market via Lalbagh West Gate; Mysore Road between Nayandahalli and BHEL Junction; West of Chord Road; Navarang Theatre to Devaiah Park; Swami Vivekanada Road between Adarsha Junction and Trinity Circle.

Better keep off these Bangalore roads today

Bangalore traffic police have advised motorists to avoid some areas in central parts of the city on Sunday, in view of the Chitra Santhe being held at Karnataka Chitra Kala Parishat in Kumara Krupa and the mammoth Congress rally at Jakkarayanakere, off Sampige Road.

The traffic police expect heavy traffic flow on Sampige Road, Sheshadripuram Link Road, Subedar Chatram Road, Platform Road, Dr Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar, Sheshadri Road and Palace Road. Motorists may avoid these roads between 6 am and 5 pm.

Parking facility for the vehicles arriving for the rally has been arranged at the Freedom Park, a private parking slot on Vatal Nagaraj Road, Sirur Park in Sheshadripuram, Railway Parallel Road and Kumara Park West Road.

A separate route for buses and vehicles ferrying Congress workers from various parts of the state has also been arranged, the advisory said.

In Dubai and other part of Middle East, they use special lorries / trucks. These are fitted with road brooms, vaccum for sucking, etc.

These are very costly trucks. But I am sure its just a matter of time and you will see them in India soon.

I agree Ullasavadan. But I'm sure we can come up with something cheaper..or relatively cheaper. Maybe instead of a truck with these accessories we can have people working for the BBMP who have designated areas where the sand buildup is large. These people can be equipped with blowers and vaccum pumps to pick up the sand and dust on these roads. Employment and sand free!! It just can't get better than that
