Somewhat belated reply, but since no one had clarified I thought of doing so. Better late than never?

There was supposed to be an underpass constructed at #1, but as of last month absolutely no sign of even any preliminary work. Nothing happening (or proposed) at #2 or #3. Magic boxes are present at #4, #5 and #6.

Thanks . I had to take shot of one screen at a time and copy paste print shots one by one side by side to make a larger map. It takes lot of time, you first need to edit your print screen image to remove all unwanted things, then you need to align each of the smaller images meticulously so that there is no alignment error in the final product. That's why I also save a copy of the empty so that I don't need to make a map again. I wish some easier technique was available.

Finally, Cox Town RoB opens to all

http://epaper.timesofindia.com/Daily...efault&pub=TOI

Now, Cantt Is Just Across The Road: The Promised Stretch Took Five Years To Complete

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Bangalore: Neha, who recently moved into her apartment opposite ITC Factory, is excited. She had been travelling at least 1.5-2 km more to get to the city centre. But starting today, she has a freeway across the chaotic Cox Town junction.
The long-awaited road overbridge (RoB) will be formally inaugurated and opened two-way to commuters on Tuesday.
The stage is set: service roads on either sides below the RoB are asphalted, streetlights line both ends of the bridge, the walls on either side are painted with motifs and figurines, and banners and posters at either end of the bridge announce the celebrations ahead.
The bridge, less than a kilometre in length, has taken a long time in the making. Work began on June 26, 2006, and it was planned to be completed in 18 months. But it has taken at least five years and cost 25% more, adding up to Rs 20 crore. Local residents and traders held four major protests to push the RoB to its logical end, and finally, it was completed a month ago.
The ROB touches three major assembly constituencies, with the bulk of it coming under Sarvagnanagar and C V Raman Nagar. But everyone is enthusiastic about the opening, and workers of two MLAs are competing to make the celebrations better.

MAGIC BOX STILL IN PIPELINE

The promised green space and a magic box for pedestrians crossing the railway line below, are still in the pipeline. But, this road stretch over Bangalore East railway line, linking the busy Komala restaurant junction and ITC Factory junction, is expected to reduce at least 10-20 minutes of travel time for commuters on this stretch. A majority of them are from Maruti Seva Nagar, Banaswadi, HBR Layout and Ramaswamipalya.
All these years, construction had forced them to travel at least an extra 1.5-2 km on alternative routes to the city. The bridge is also expected to reduce traffic on two other major RoBs nearby, at Lingarajapuram and Seva Nagar. “Early morning and evening hours here are a nightmare. Very often, we are stuck in a jam from both ends,’’ say commuters on this stretch.

SMALL RoB, LONG TALE

Jointly taken up by BBMP and Railways RoB was to be completed in 18 months, at a cost of Rs 15 cr Completed after five years, cost Rs 20 crore Local residents and traders held four protests

QUOTE HANGER

It’s a great relief to see this flyover finally open. We’ve struggled hard to make this happen. Some of us even threatened to lie on railway tracks in protest. We are happy that there finally was coordination in the final stages of the project. And our only hope — pending work on the garden and magic box for pedestrians — is also completed.
N S Ravi | BHARATINAGAR RESIDENT WELFARE ASSOCIATION Thanks to the untiring effort and zeal of Bangalore East Swabhimana Trust, this RoB will help commuters not only in the area but also lakhs of people living in layouts such as Kammanahalli, Kalyan Nagar, HBR Layout, Hennur-Banaswadi Layout.

Gali Anjaneyaswamy Temple Flyover - Pics

This project is running behind schedule by a couple of years and shows no signs of nearing completion Here are a couple of photos taken from the take-off point on Chord Road, Vijayanagar:

A view of the flyover from Chord Road. Plenty of materials but few men at work

A closer look at the flyover. Note the yawning gap in the middle - that's a complete span missing (12-15 m approx.) The structure in the background (behind the coconut palm) is the KSRTC Satellite Bus Terminal on Mysore Road.

Puttenahalli overpass thrown open.

The overpass which allows two-way traffic is yet to be asphalted though

SOME RELIEF:The Puttenahalli Flyover that was thrown open to traffic in Bangalore on Sunday.

Bangalore:Finally, there is light at the end of the tunnel for residents of J.P. Nagar, Puttenahalli, Kothanur and surrounding areas.

For, the overpass on 24 {+t} {+h} Main at J.P. Nagar was thrown open to traffic by Minister for Transport R. Ashok on Sunday even as the work on the underpass is continuing.

The Puttenahalli underpass is being built on J.P. Nagar 15 {+t} {+h} Cross, which intersects 24th Main and the Ring Road.

The Rs. 23-crore project was taken up about three years ago to ease traffic flow from the southern reaches of the city.

Work on the project, which was supposed to be completed in February 2009, is going on at a snail's pace.

After throwing open the overpass on 24 {+t} {+h} Main, the Minister said that the contractor has not kept his word on completing the project in time.

Jayanagar MLA B.N. Vijayakumar and residents of the area, who were fed up with the slow pace of work, had urged the officials of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to blacklist the contractor. Mr. Ashok said that henceforth, the BBMP would take up a thorough pre-qualification of bids for major works in the city.

“The officials will be directed to allow only qualified contractors to participate in the tendering process. The BBMP will blacklist contractors who do not complete the work within the stipulated time,” he said.

The contract for the construction of the Puttenahalli underpass was awarded to Andhra Pradesh-based Engineer Project India Ltd., BBMP officials said.

The delay in completing the project has inconvenienced people who have been forced to take numerous detours.

The overpass which allows movement of two-way traffic has still not been asphalted though.

The contractor has promised the Minister that the entire project will be completed in about three months' time, the officials said.

Airport Road VMS to flash flight alerts

Quote:
Jagadish Angadi, Bangalore, May 10, DH News Service:

Air passengers who are in a hurry to reach Bengaluru International Airport for fear of missing their flights, will now get the latest details about their flights well before they reach the airport...

A file photo of the variable message signboard installed in Bangalore.

The huge electronic Variable Message Signboard (VMS) at Kempapura cross, Hebbal on Air Port Road will soon begin flashing alerts about delayed arrival/departure of flights to facilitate the passengers.

“The City traffic police are in touch with the BIA officials. The BIA flashes alerts on its websites about the delayed flights’ arrival/departure. All we need to do is to connect BIA’s link with Traffic Management Centre (TMC) from where alerts can be flashed on the VMS boards,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic & Security) Praveen Sood told Deccan Herald.

The response from BIA has been positive, Sood added. The work has already begun and in a month or so, VMS will start beaming the scrolling messages.

One of the causes for accidents on Devanahalli Road is overspeeding. Many passengers and cab drivers indulge in over speeding when they are late to catch flights and end up causing accidents. If informed about the flights’ status through VMS boards, such passengers can change travel plans or slow down avoiding the possibility of accident.

Sood had suggested the idea of flashing alerts on Airport Road VMS board during the inauguration of the four VMS on April 7. Home Minister V S Acharya approved the ideaand directed him to implement it at the earliest.

Happy with the response of the public for the four VMS - on Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road, Airport Road at Hebbal (two sign boards) and K R Puram (towards City), the traffic police have decided to introduce the facility on six more roads - Residency Road, Basaveshwar Circle, Richmond Road, JC Road (Minerva Circle), Kannada Bhavan and K G Road.

Erection work is on with the boards received from Spain. In all probability, the six will be functional by June end, Sood said.

The VMS on RRMR Road was extensively used to flash alerts about jams, slow traffic movement and alternative routes during IPL matches, BBMP elections and Eid processions. The alerts helped hundreds of road users to take alternative roads.

Heavy traffic areas in City to get tunnel roads

Quote:
Bangalore, May 10, DH News Service:

The State government has long-term plans to build tunnel roads in the City to ease traffic congestion, said District In-charge (Bangalore South) and Transport Minister R Ashok on Monday.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said such roads would be laid in areas where heavy traffic is witnessed and also where road widening is near impossible.

Ashok said tunnel roads would be laid in congested areas like Avenue Road, wherein it is practically impossible to widen the stretch.

Another proposal was to construct such tunnel roads between Binny Mills and Kempe Gowda Bus station to reduce the traffic density, he said. However, the proposals are in preliminary stage and nothing concrete has emerged so far, he said. In terms of construction of tunnel roads, they are more expensive compared to flyovers. While the cost of constructing one km of flyover is around Rs 40 to 50 crore, similar stretch of tunnel road would cost around Rs 160 crore, he pointed out. BBMP and BDA will begin the process of constructing five new flyovers this year, he added. Ashok further said fresh tenders for security number plates would be invited after getting the court stay on the previous tender vacated.

These kind of plants are being planted in all road medians in Bangalore. Yes, it seems. But I have seen tankers watering them during the initial days they are planted.

Come on Akash, ‘clean or green’ has nothing to do with this. If your theory is true we will make you our landscaping consultant and we can save money on water used for irrigation.

Karnataka is primarily an arid plateau, barring the west coast and the hilly Malnadu. Natual vegetation is limited, just check the Google earth you will see it for yourself. The deccan plateau is primarily brown as distinguished by the dark green of the west coast/Kerala and the light green of TN. The vegetation in Bangalore is mostly created, by the RAJ. The total rainfall of Bangalore is only about 990 m a year & Mysore has just 789 mm a year. You travel north towards Devahalli and will find that the topography is mostly barren, rocky.

So unless you plant trees/shrubs which require less water or do irrigation, you would not be able to keep them live.
