Hello all,

First, I would like to express my delight in joining this thriving forum that focuses on the development of this African giant. Particular greetings to Kityabi, Nubian Warrior, Soul Soul, Dentist and Dinder, whose photos have kept this forum very alive!

In regards to the news of the launching of a Satellite by the Sudanese Government, Sudan debt currently stands at 35 Billion Dollars. The government has finally realised that ignoring that amount of debt, and rather depending on funds from the Gulf and China is no longer a sustainable option, especially as this economic downturn proved> This is why Mr Al-Jaz is due to arrive in Washington in January to convince the US to write of some of that debt!
So this makes me think, where would that Satellite program be funded from!

So, Sudan will have to wait untill all debts are cleared in order to launch a satellite which is going to create more permanent highly skillful jobs, that are going to help the country into the modern day age technological economies, lives?

Oil will pay for it. is that hard to see?

500,000 million dollars for the satellite + 500,000 million more to build the Tecommonunication center for the Satellite , into research in science and Technology is that much?

Sudan has Oil and Gas, and other minerals wealth and super Agriculture pontetials.

Having these thing means nothing if you don't have educated people to exploit them.

what wrong with having a Satellite anyways?

absolutely nothing in my opinion, it would be a technological boost to the economy.
Also when people speak of Sudan's debt they rarely take in to account the growth in Sudan's economy yes debt has increased 10-15% over the ast decade but GDP has tripled in that period meaning a decrease in the proportion of debt.

Exactly my point, boosting the modern age Technological economies. and creating 1000s of long term/permanent Jobs in the industry. high paying jobs.

I would very much love seeing DRC launch a satellite in space spending 800, million Dollars will be worth it, even if our budget is a chicken small budget. it will boost our Telecom industry and creating 1000s of longterm/permanent jobs. Our literacy rate is low 72%, [ it was 82% in 1996 beofre we went to war with the Rwandan and Ugandan puppets.]. it could have been in the 90s by now.

They do any analyses at all when doing their blind conclusions.

.
its much less then 800 million dollars, I am very comfident about the prospects of the DRC's economy give it a few years and launching a sattelite will be a plausible option for the DRC
In regards to Uganda it is a small landlocked country that is dependent on leaching off neighbouring states and their resources, the Congo will ultimately come out on top.

a going off on a tangent now, the second Congo war was a disgraceful example of African colonialism that lead to the death of 5.4 million Congolese. I expect that one day the Congolese people will hold these states to account for their transgressions.

I believe it costs 300-400 million and another 400 million for the earth stations and logistics., i just can't wait to see the country launch a Satellite. there are no reasons why we shouldn't or can't. Its only less than a Billion dollars and it part of Higher education, research, Economical and more. all in one.

Once i go back home next summer, i will do anything to talk to some ministers and the president [if possible]. our president is a simple dude, that would fall in love with that idea. he talks to people with idea that can just improve the country in anything.

We have a Congolese Engineer who is interested in making his own space rocket, he launched the first rocket with his own pocket money of 5000 Dollars, people took him like a joke because it only flew 1 km, but after that he has recieved state attentions and they are supporting his innitiative by the Ministry of Scientific research and Technology. My proposals are that he must Copy an advanced Rockets in order to be able to further his research. perhaps buy Some Iranian and North Korean rockets, then from there he will be able to put his dreams to reality.

They have no idea what Congo is doing and later plans. They have been having illusions thinking that Congo will join EAC. but when i ask them what they have to offer, they can't come up with an answer.

Yea, we became the victims of our greatful hospitality. They think Congo will be weak for eternity. what they don't know is that they opened wounds that will never close. they also forgot that they are our neighbors.[ They have been doing their masters UK, US's jobs].

yes for example it was France who had asked chad to send in troops. Some of the worst massacres were committed by the Chaidans.

Guys,

Don't be deceived! Sudanese do not have any problems with Chadians. We have a problem with the French, whom if it wasn't for them, President Idriss Deby would have been long gone by now! The same issue goes for Congo and Uganda! You boy from DRC, you should know when General M7 of UG took power, everyone, including your sorry DRC, welcomed him as the President of UG, some hailing him as the Hero of Africa along with Mandela, Neyrere, and Nkrumah!

Again, moving on from politics, when you compare Sudan's Expenditure with its income, especially recently after the abandoning of Gulf countries to Sudan after the economic downturn that shook the world, you will start to be worried!

A solid proof is the fact that Dr. Awad Al-Jaz has scheduled a visit to Washignton to discuss the possibility of the U.S. pushing other nations and organisations, such as the Paris Club, to give up all or some of the debt owed to the Sudanese government!

I'm not being pessimistic here, but when we manage to sort out our infrastructure then we can start looking at launching satellites to spy on other nations, or allegedly to improve the education and transport systems!

Projects like Giad and Al Safat makes every Sudanese proud, but we should not punch above our line of level! Spending almost 3% worth of the National Debt on launching a satellite is way out of proportion!

Your saying, that you have to finish one thing[i.e Infrastructures], then move to the next?
It shows how much you don't know the prenciples of development. the UK became the most industrialized nation with more than 50% of her population Illitarate and more than 50% of her population poor. China, India are developing very fast with more than 80% of their people very poor. you mean they have to wait untill they lift all people out of extreme poverty before they launch Satellites?

Security& Defence , Telecom, Scientific, Medical research, are not important? so why Sudanese go to school to learn Computer science, technology, Medical research, etc...?

I believe the primary purpose will be Communication, however it would not be inconceivable for the satellite to have a secondary role.
