'World Class' Chepauk

Source: TOI

Most of the article criticises the Motera stadium in A'bad, that's why I have not posted the entire article.

Quote:
"We have accessed the report of ICC which was given to BCCI, which says 'the standard of facilities in majority of stadiums (especially in India) was of variable quality ranging from being world class in Chennai to totally unsatisfactory in Ahmedabad'," Amin told reporters on Thursday.

even though i am a big time critic of why TN does not have more than one cricket stadiums, i would say people love playing in Chennai especially the overseas players except for the humidity.

Why have they not touched the pavillion ? That ugly stand must be removed so that the whole ground looks even.

They won't touch it now - given the IPL in another 4 months.

Nod for stadium stands soon

Source :http://www.asianage.com/chennai/nod-...tands-soon-611

Quote:
The 12,000 empty chairs sealed by the corporation in M.A. Chidambaram stadium, Chennai, might soon get a reprieve from the state government as the urban development department is said to have given a green signal to accord planning permission to these newly-constructed galleries in the ground.
The civic authorities had sealed the three stands for violation of building norms. Apparently, CMDA would give the clearance in a few days subject to procuring of NOCs from the local agencies. It would then be sent to the corporation for granting building plan approval that is also expected to be cleared soon.
“Higher authorities, a few days ago, gave a go-ahead for measures related to granting approval for planning permission for the sealed stands,” sources in the government told DC.
The 40-year-old stadium was redesigned with newly-designed galleries to accommodate spectators in comfort. The corporation had locked and sealed three stands (G, H, I) last October for constructing the structure without obtaining clearance from CMDA and corporation.
Sources in CMDA told that the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) authorities claimed to possess the Environmental Impact Assessment Clearance from Union environment ministry. Based on that, approval for the planning permission would be given, however, they should produce that certificate.
And also, they need to get clearance from two more state agencies. But the officials declined to reveal the name of those agencies. After submitting the required documents, the MSB panel will issue clearance for planning approval, and then it would be sent to corporation for obtaining clearance for building permission. “That will also be cleared soon,” they said.
However, the officials were tightlipped when asked whether the clearance would be given before the final matches of IPL-5 scheduled to be held in Chennai on May 25 and 27.

IPL: CMDA puts TNCA on a sticky wicket

Source : http://ibnlive.in.com/news/ipl-cmda-...12-60-120.html

Quote:
CHENNAI : As the countdown for the Indian Premier League (IPL) Finals begin, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) is desperately trying to get the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority’s (CMDA) clearance for three renovated stands at the MA Chidambaram stadium before it hosts the event.
The TNCA has already announced that the IPL eliminator (May 25) and final (May 27) will be held in Chennai, ending speculation over the possibility of pull out. However, CMDA is firm that unsealing of the stands won’t happen unless all norms are met.
CMDA sources told Express on Monday that apart from the lack of planning permission, setback - that is, the space between the building and the boundary wall - violations were committed while redesigning the stadium. “There have been some setback violations and some structures have to be demolished. If they comply with all the regulations, then CMDA will have no objection in giving clearance certificate,” CMDA sources said.
Sources also said that TNCA has yet to get several no-objection certificates, including from the fire department. “They also need to get the development charge advice before getting full clearance,” sources said.
TNCA has spent over `150 crore for the revamp of stadium. The three stands - G, H and I - which were re-designed, were caught in a controversy after civic authorities sealed it last year for violation of building norms.
Will the TNCA manage to get the green light? Watch this space.

They are definitely not going to raze down the stands and would be granting the permission anyways.. All this is a stunt and pressure tactics to get more money as bribe.

IPL now over, when are they going to remove pavilion stands & build new one?
When completed will look even better.

When the new stands come instead of the present pavilion the southern breeze will move freely and the ground will be relatively cooler in the evenings.
