CAF supplied 13 three-car trainsets to Medellín under a contract signed in 2009, and an option for three more trains was exercised in January 2014. The first of these is to be delivered to Colombia shortly

Why Translohr? Wouldn't a normal tram be a better option?

In Medellin Translor of Ayacucho has to handle steep elevations up to 13%, that is why they primarily opted for Translohr, lets see how it works out when its open.

Does Medellin tram deserve its own thread? If not, this one should be renamed to MEDELLIN | Public Transport.

Why did they choose Translohr instead of conventional tram tracks?

Because translohr can climb easily steep hills and let's remember Medellín is located in a valley and surrounded by mountains where only the city centre and west side of the city is flat.

There's another project already designed and projected to start next year and is a conventional tram way longer than the actual one but located in the west side of the city.
