hkskyline's 2009 ROTTERDAM Photo Collection #1

1. Although I was originally hoping to meet our Dutch forumers during my Rotterdam visit. My week in the Netherlands was greeted with terrible weather, and I almost cancelled Rotterdam altogether, but as the sun peeked a little bit, I tried my luck and hopped on the train hoping for the best.

4. There were a lot of new skyscrapers and modern buildings around the railway station. It felt like a downsized version of Pudong with less cars.

9. Whose car is parked in the wrong spot?

10. Beware of oncoming tram.

15. What sets the Netherlands apart from the rest of Europe is the abundance of bicycles and their popularity. Meanwhile, in former bicycle-friendly countries such as China, this cheap and environmental mode of transport is quickly being replaced by polluting cars.

23. An awful algae bloom has taken over this pile of dead water.

27. Construction continues in the heart of the city. Redevelopment is alive and well.

30. The Cube House looks very modern, and innovative.

33. However, from a practical perspective, these homes are quite awful to live in. The way the windows face and the layout of the floors significantly the amount of natural light coming into the home.

43. The indoor terrace seems to be a nice greenhouse though!

48. There aren't too many tall buildings in this part of town. Hence, the historical buildings stand out quite well.

58. Across the river, more modern buildings appear.
