Opening some stations every week to citizens till it will be full operational (within the end of the year) to let the city know the new infrastructure

Amazing.

And yet, here in the UK, the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh, which is of similar size to Brescia, has struggled to build one tram line!

Great to see the birth of a new Metro. I have no clue how you continental Europeans do it, but I take my hat off to you!

I'd say that Edinburgh is roughly double the size of Brescia.

Brescia is gonna be another "small city" wonder with a metro system.
I like both the design and the choice of rolling stock as also the idea that metro system ain't a privilege of big cities only anymore!

Well that makes my point stand even further then! (I've decided to start an Edinburgh thread now to show what I mean..)

This new metro is based off the same tech as the Copenhagen Metro, right?

I'd say so.
Ansaldobreda made both of them, but what are the tech. specs for each I wouldn't know. For me, those are the sexiest metro trains ever built. Design reminds me of retro SF movies from the '80s.

again from italy... Brescia automated light metro...

for your usual foreign enjoyment...
and your enthusiastic comments in a foreign land...
clearly, foreign to me... not for you...

I'm from brescia but i don't care a damn...
but this time i'm doing it, because no one else did.
And in the meantime he asked ...or required... us to do. But why!?...

Well, anyway...

Inauguration of Europa and Mompiano stations... (sat03nov2012) (ddmmyy)

And so just, i'm leaving.

Be to correct the automatic translator who corrects me, is a long, hard work...
And then never know exactly who corrects who.

Considerazioni:

Sure, but the metro system is set in the city limits, not the metro area. I know, there will be some connections, maybe park & ride system...
The right question would be what is the number of people commuting inside the city limits.
And there are cities in Italy, like Florence, Bari, Bologna or Messina that are considerably larger and still don't have metro. I know that some of them have undergoing plans or projects, but still Brescia beats them to it. Bravo for Brescia!

Don't get me wrong, my opinion is that every city that is over 200K inhabitants should build some kind of metro system. Not the tram (street car), but grade separated one. If we are going towards more humane society, towards less pollution, towards mobility, and also some kind of higher collective standard, that would be the principle. Not every city will have the money, but some, like Brescia and Lausanne will...

BTW, concerning money, who is financing the project? Brescia region and city or state has something to do with it?

I can't disagree with that at all! Attitudes towards public transport have to change though.

Recently, in the UK, the city of Birmingham (City pop. 1.1m, urban pop. ~3m) proposed an Underground system, and it was practically laughed out of parliament.

Even Glasgow, which built an Underground in Victorian times, can only dream of ever getting it extended, let alone a tram line. There is no will to do this. Not even to electrify the commuter rail network or convert urban lines to Metro standard..

I think it's great that there are forward thinking cities out there with some ambition (and it proves that these sorts of projects are worthwhile and affordable). Good on Brescia!

I didn't realize Birmingham municipality had more than 1 million people, but it seems they have rebounded since dropping below that magical level in 2001. Still, they deserve to be laughed out of parliament as they already have a light rail that's not bursting at the seams.

marcobs's photos are mostly of architecture, structures and objects,
instead Il trovatore mainly shows photos of people, persons and situations.
And so, here are his photos

Since when Edinburgh is double the size of Brescia? With the surrounding communities, it has about 700.000 inh. and a strong economy, not every 'small city' can afford to build a metro system, look for bigger cities like Zagreb and Belgrade which have NO underground system.
