The U.S. has some of the best and most interesting court house buildings anywhere, here in the U.K. we have some of the most dreary, often dating from the bad old 60's and 70's when it was the fashion to replace the earlier (and infinitely better) ones.

I took a trip to the Palouse region of Eastern Washington State a few days ago and took pictures of two rather simple county court houses. Both counties are very sparsely populated, each with fewer than 5,000 residents. Garfield is the smallest county by population in the entire state and Columbia is third smallest.

Garfield County Court House in Pomeroy, built in 1901

Columbia County Court House in Dayton, oldest in the state, built in 1887
