นางวีณา อรัญญเกษม รองกรรมการผู้จัดการอาวุโส ฝ่ายบริหารพื้นที่เช่าและสื่อโฆษณา เทสโก้โลตัส เปิดเผยว่า ในปีนี้บริษัทฯตัดสินใจชะลอการลงทุนเปิดสาขาใหม่ในรูปแบบพลัสชอปปิ้มอลล์ออกไปก่อน เนื่องจากว่า ภาวะเศรษฐกิจเวลานี้ไม่ค่อยดี รวมทั้งการหาทำเลดีๆที่เหมาะสมก็ลำบาก ขณะที่คู่ค้าร้านค้าต่างๆ ก็มีบางรายยังไม่พร้อมขยายกิจการ เนื่องจากได้รับผลกระทบจากความวุ่นวายทางการเมืองในช่วงที่ผ่านมา จากเดิมที่บริษัทฯกำหนดเปิดสาขาพลัสชอปปิ้งใหม่ปีละ 1 สาขา โดยในปีหน้าจะพิจารณาลงทุนใหม่

อย่างไรก็ตาม ขณะนี้เปิดพลัสไปแล้ว 2 สาขา ถือว่าประสบความสำเร็จอย่างมาก ช่วง 5 เดือนแรกมีผลประกอบการเติบโต 10% คือ พลัสมอลล์สาขาศรีนครินทร์ และพลัสมอลล์สาขาอมตะนคร บางนา-ตราด กม.ที่ 37 ซึ่งเป็นเนเบอร์ฮูดขนาดย่อมประมาณ 30,000 ตารางเมตร ราคาเช่าพื้นที่ 800-2,500 บาทต่อตารางเมตรต่อเดือน ทั้งนี้เร็วๆนี้บริษัทฯเตรียมงบประมาณ 4 ล้านบาท ในการรีแบรนด์ดิ้งพลัสที่สาขาศรีนคริทร์หลังจากที่ทำสาขาอมตะไปแล้ว

สำหรับธุรกิจคอมมูนิตี้มอลล์นั้น นางวีณา ยอมรับเช่นกันว่า ได้ชะลอการลงทุนออกไปก่อนเช่นกัน เกือบ 1 ปี ซึ่งก่อนหน้านี้เราอยู่ระหว่างการทดลองรูปแบบนี้ ซึ่งคงต้องมีการปรับอีกมาก แต่ยืนยันว่าเป็นรูปแบบที่ดี และที่ผ่านมาก็ได้รับการตอบรับดีเช่นกัน เพียงแต่ต้องปรับเพื่อให้มีศักยภาพมากยิ่งขึ้นอีก ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเรื่องของ สโตร์มิกซ์หรือส่วนผสมของร้านค้า รวมทั้งปัญหาเรื่องที่จอดรถด้วย เพราะถ้าหากเล็กไปก็จะไม่สมบูรณ์ และคอมมูนิตี้ของเราบางแห่งก็เป็นเทสโก้ดโลตัสเอ็กซ์เพรสหรือตลาดสดโลตัสซึ่งอาจจะเล็กเกินไป

ปัจจุบันบริษัทฯมีสาขาคอมมูมินิตี้มอลล์แล้วรวม 9 แห่ง แบ่งเป็น 3 แบรนด์คือ แอดปาร์ค 7 สาขา, แอดโอเอซิส 1 สาขา และแอดการ์เด้น 1 สาขา ซึ่งสาขาล่าสุดคือ แอดปาร์คที่เชิงทะเล ภูเก็ต ลงทุน 60 ล้านบาท ซึ่งสาขานี้มีตลาดสดโลตัสเปิดบริการด้วย

ส่วนธุรกิจอื่นคือไฮเปอร์มาร์ท และแบรนด์อื่นยังเดินหน้าลงทุนต่อเนื่องเพราะเป็นธุรกิจหลักไม่ว่าจะเป็น ไฮเปอร์มาร์เก็ต ตลาดสดโลตัส ร้านคุ้มค่า เทสโก้โลตัสเอ็กซ์เพรส ทั้งนี้เมื่อชะลอแผนต่างๆเหล่านี้ บริษัทฯจะหันกลับมาพัฒนาและเพิ่มศักยภาพของช้อปปิ้งมอลล์ขนาดใหญ่ ที่ ได้ลงทุนไปมากในช่วงหลังนี้ ให้ดียิ่งขึ้นไปอีก เพื่อตอกย้ำความเป็นผู้นำ

นางวีณา กล่าวว่า ล่าสุดเทสโก้โลตัส ได้ลงทุน 15 ล้านบาท ในการสร้างระบบการจัดการข้อมูล Centralize System เพื่อช่วยตอกย้ำความเป็นศูนย์อาหารอันดับ 1 ของไทย จากจำนวนสาขาที่มากที่สุดถึง 116 สาขา บนพื้นที่รวมมากกว่า 80,000 ตารางเมตร มีร้านค้ารวมกว่า 1,300 ราย มีลูกค้าหมุนเวียนมากกว่า 110,000 คนต่อวันทุกสาขา หรือคิดเป็นลูกค้ากว่า 55% จากลูกค้าทั้งหมดที่เข้าสโตร์ต้องเข้าศูนย์อาหารหรือฟู้ดคอร์ท

รวมทั้งการทำกลยุทธ์ บัตรศูนย์อาหาร เทสโก้โลตัส บัตรเดียวใช้อร่อยได้ทั่วไทย เพื่อให้ลูกค้าใช้ได้ทุกสาขา ซึ่งแผนตลาดช่วงนี้ จะจัดร่วมกับบัตรคลับการ์ด โดยทุก 2 บาทจะได้รับ 1 แต้ม โดยลูกค้าจะได้รับแต้มคลับการ์ด 2 เท่าหรือ 3 เท่า หรือรับฟรีของพรีเมียม ปัจจุบันยอดผู้ถือบัตรคลับการ์ดมากกว่า 4-5 ล้านรายแล้ว และแอคทีฟ 80% ทั้งนี้สาขาที่ได้มีการปรับศูนย์อาหารไปแล้วทำให้ยอดขายเพิ่มขึ้นกว่า 20-30% เช่น หลักสี่ อยุธยา ศรีนครินทร์ เป็นต้น

ทั้งนี้ตลาดรวมศูนย์อาหารที่อยู่ในห้างค้าปลีกมีมูลค่ารวมมากกว่า 7,000 ล้านบาท โดยเทสโก้โลตัสมีส่วนแบ่งตลาดมากกว่า 43% ซึ่งล่าสุดเครือข่ายเทสโก้โลตัสในไทย มีดังนี้ ไฮเปอร์มาร์เก็ต 86 สาขา, ตลาดสดโลตัส 65 สาขา, ร้านคุ้มค่า 30 สาขา และเทสโก้โลตัสเอ็กซ์เพรส 490 สาขา

PTT Plc, the country’s largest oil conglomerate, is looking into the possibility of buying out Carrefour (Thailand) to further expand its retail operations, reports said, citing an informed source at the PTT.

The reports said PTT CEO and president Prasert Bunsumpun had ordered such a study after several companies had approached PTT about a joint buyout of the giant foreign retailer's Thailand subsidiary.

PTT will study the possibility of buying the retail firm itself, or joining with business partners in a takeover, according to the source.

However, PTT has no plan to join forces with 7-Eleven, which is its business partner in operating retail outlets at PTT fuel pumps. PTT wants to strengthen and expand its retail business by itself.

The source said the takeover of Jiffy had not really helped strengthen PTT’s retail operation as expected.

“PTT thinks the retail business is not just selling fuel. The business of retail shops at fuel outlets is also important.

"However, oil and gas will continue to be the core business of PTT,” the source was quoted as saying.

Prasert Bunsumpun, the president and CEO of PTT, surprised analysts in a meeting on Thursday night by revealing the company might diversify into the retail business through Carrefour hypermarkets. The Thai assets are estimated to be worth about US$600 million or 19 billion baht.

When Carrefour announced some of its Southeast Asian assets were for sale two months ago, the interested bidders in the Thai operation were rumoured to include Berli Jucker (BJC), Tesco Lotus, Saha Group and Big C. However, PTT is only the second company after BJC to confirm its interest.


Mr Prasert said that even though PTT was an energy company, retail sales were not "too far" from its core business.
“We don’t want to be Central [Department Store], but as an oil company we can do a lot more than you would imagine if you are open to it. The trend in Europe and England is for petrol dispensers providing service to motorists at Carrefour hypermarkets. So couldn’t that be possible here?” he asked rhetorically.

When Carrefour put fuel pumps at its hypermarkets, it drove up sales of both the stores and of fuel, he said.

“Countries like Thailand that have been dependent on manufacturing exports are most affected,” said Verghis, who covers Thailand and four other Southeast Asian countries. The World Bank released its latest forecasts for Thailand and other economies in East Asia and Pacific on Tuesday. The global economic slump shut down what has been, for the past three decades, the main engine for Thailand’s economic growth: exports.

The Thai government announced an economic stimulus program totaling 117 billion baht ($3.34 billion). The program included a host of short-term measures to boost household consumption and assist lower-income families.

The government is now preparing a second stimulus package worth 1.6 trillion baht ($45 billion). Among other initiatives, this package focuses on public investment in infrastructure projects, which the government hopes will help create 1.6 million jobs. “The infrastructure investments, if implemented, will help generate growth and improve Thailand’s competitiveness,” said World Bank. “However, it is worth noting that financing for infrastructure has been available for the past few years. What has suppressed investment was not funding, but rather political and institutional constraints.” While the impact on the real sector has been larger than expected, the global crisis has not shaken the Thai financial sector.

The World Bank attributed this to Thailand’s strong macroeconomic fundamentals; low external debt coupled with high international reserves; and a sound financial sector, which has undergone a series of reforms following the 1997 crisis.

BANGKOK, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Berli Jucker Pcl (BJC.BK), Thailand's leading consumer conglomerate, may seek a partner in its bid for the Southeast Asian operations of French retailer Carrefour (CARR.PA), its senior executive said on Friday.

"We are considering several options for the bidding, whether to go it alone, or to cooperate with a partner because we have had no experience in the retail business," Corporate Finance Manager Dusanee Therdteppitak told reporters.

In July, Berli Jucker said it was keen to bid for Carrefour's business in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, which would help Berli expand into new areas and strengthen its consumer product segment for long-term growth. [ID:nSGE66K05S]

The value of the deal is estimated at $1 billion and the first round of bidding is expected in September.

A partner would help support funding for the bid, Dusanee said, adding the company's current cash flow was 3-4 billion baht and it was able to borrow more than 16 billion baht from banks.

Majority owned by TCC Holding of liquor tycoon Charoen Sirivadhanabhadi, Berli is valued at $878 million on the Thai bourse, making it the country's largest consumer products group ahead of Saha Pathana Inter Holding SPI.BK.

It produces a wide range of consumer and pharmaceutical products and runs a glass-packaging business.

The company reported a 10 percent sales growth to 12.3 billion baht in the first six months, and Dusanee said it aimed to maintain that level of growth in the second half.

It also planned to spend hundreds of million baht in the second half to build a tissue paper manufacturing plant in Vietnam and buy a distributor there. It expected to book revenues in the fourth quarter, Dusanee added.

For next year, it was looking to invest in a snack business, Dusanee said, without giving further details.

Aug 26 (Reuters) - Woolworths Ltd (WOW.AX), Australia's largest supermarket chain, will not buy the Southeast Asian units put up for sale by France's Carrefour (CARR.PA), Woolworths Chief Executive Michael Luscmbe said on Thursday.
Carrefour is working with investment banks Goldman Sachs (GS.N) and UBS (UBSN.VX) on the auction of its units in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, in a deal that banking sources said could raise around $1 billion.

"In the three areas for sale -- Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore -- they actually don't have a great market position," Luscombe said in a telephone interview.

"They are three or four or five in the market and quite frankly, that's not of interest to us," he added, noting that a potential deal had been run by it.

"They were certainly slipped under our door by a number of merchant banks that were interested in us participating," he said.

Woolworths would still consider assets in Asia, he said.

"If the right one comes up we'll certainly consider it strongly," he said.

French retailer Carrefour will launch two new hypermarkets on Tuesday that focus on competitive product areas in a bid to boost flagging sales in Europe, its chief executive said in a newspaper interview.
The retailer, the world's second-largest with 15,500 stores in 35 countries, has embarked on a three-year plan that includes divesting assets in some countries and overhauling its European hypermarkets, which represent half of its sales.

Chief Executive Lars Olofsson said Carrefour's old bazaar-like hypermarkets, situated on the outskirts of cities, will have to undergo changes.
"The concept of having everything under one roof in a bazaar-like spirit is a thing of the past," Olofsson was quoted as saying by Le Journal du Dimanche on Saturday.
The plan includes investing a third of the 3.1 billion euros (USD 4 billion) the company has targeted in cost savings by 2012 in revamping stores, introducing new ranges and offering price promotions to lure customers back to its hypermarkets.
The 59 year-old Swede who joined Carrefour in 2008 from the world's largest food company Nestle, said the new concept stores will focus on sectors in which Carrefour is competitive in prices such as textiles, home decor and groceries.
"In the pilot stores that will open in Lyon (in east-central France), some departments will go, some will merge and we will introduce some new ones," Olofsson said.
The CEO said that even though consumer confidence is still low, Carrefour has increased its market share in France by 1% to 24% since the beginning of the year and he expected consumption to remain stable.
Olofsson did not confirm or deny reports that Carrefour, the No. 2 after Wal-Mart Stores Inc, is in talks to sell its Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand units at a potential price of USD 1 billion.
