After the first pass the road descends and then starts to rise again until second pass at about 2900 m.

On some mountain stretches they have kept the original width of the road as it's too expensive to widen the road and there is still no need for that also.

Road from Sana'a to Amran and onto Kuhlan

image hosted on flickr

sanaa-kuhlan by vatse, on Flickr

Road to Amran is quite busy connecting Sana'a with this nearby provincial capital and also with northern provinces including Sa'dah. Some people are using the road west from Amran also for driving to Saudi Arabia.

Mountain road near Kuhlan. The stone obelisk is part of original mountain side left by road workers to show the amount of work they have done to build this road.

Some bigger roads in Sana'a

Western part of ring road of Sana'a (60 Meters Road).
It's the closest thing for expressway what I have seen in Yemen. Still there are some u-turns and so on.

Most of the pictures are from ordinary streets so it's probably 50 km/h. Only ring road of Sana'a may have higher speed limits, probably 70 km/h. Can't remember this exactly but there was some kind of higher speed limit on ring road.
Most of drivers would drive as fast as possible anyway

There is a deadly civil war there, so no surprise that this thread is quite.

Actually it isn't a civil war, there's Saudi Arabia involved.
