Interestingly, like Melbourne Central the glass on Rialto is actually black. As seen in this image in the foyer.

The glass looks blue as it's reflecting the colour of the sky. Just like the sea.

i always had the impression that the 43 floors tower makes the taller one look small.

I know the WFGT is only a tourism promotion thing, but the main criteria for membership is a public observation deck. Since the Rialto's is closing, will they get kicked out?

Will always remain a timeless icon of a building - particularly from the western aspect as it's position right near the western edge of the CBD sees the sky's colours play off this gigantic mirror often to truly beautiful effect.

Indeed. It can look amazing as the sun gives it a nice layer of gold.

Classy building. If I could steal one from Melbourne and plant it in Brisbane, Rialto would be my first pick.

You can even admire that from the east.

It's okay, not bad, but I'm not the biggest fan of glass. Of Melbourne buildings I'm far more into 101 Collins and 120 Collins.

I love 120 and 101 too, but Rialto is simply stunning. Hasn't aged a day. And it's enormous.

I think thats a timeless building. Even with Eureka Tower, I am more likely to see Rialto as the most iconic skyscraper in Melbourne.

Remember as a teenager, watching it get built, remember the "news stories" of the painful sun reflection from "all the glass, from Melbourne's tallest building" Rialto has not aged since, its still as big and "brutal" in form as it ever was and a sight I will always miss about home.

My office is on level 26 of this great building (Nth Tower, facing north-east) and I can say it's a great building on the inside too.

I have worked in both 101 Collins and 600 Bourke in the past and it's probably not quite up to the standard of 101 but definitely much better than 600 Bourke. There are also lots of new initiatives going on with a new concierge service allowing you to have your lunch/coffee/gifts purchased from nearby restaurants/shops delivered to your desk and also improvements to the restaurants around the building with Grossi's Merchant and vue de monde. There is also talk of a full refurb of the foyer and installation of new retail in the now closed off ground floor entry area for the old observation deck.
