Wuhan Metro Line 3 to open by the end of 2015, adding 120 subway entrances across the city

Line 3 is also served by an underground metro depot. Some stations will have direct connections with adjacent office and commercial buildings.

Wuhan is apparently building a massive underground city near Optics Valley (current southeast terminus of line 2). It will connect to four metro lines (currently served by one line)

While we are waiting for Line 3 opening, here is something interesting. Here is the diagram of paired cross-platform transfer between lines 2 & 4:

I think Xianggang Lu should have gone with Hong Kong Road as English name.

There should be no English names, just pure transliteration into Latin script. Same names in Chinese and English.

I really do not see the benefit of there being a station called "Citizens Home", for instance.

Agreed. The transliteration gives you chance to learn the pronounciation. In this case you can always ask ppl - even if you dont know chinese - and with the english translation you cant do that.

I also agree. There is a reason I only use Pinyin station names.

BTW, that photo that is labelled as Shimin Zhongxin, is actually Fanhu again.

Line 1 of the Wuhan Metro has four-car trains and its stations are ~80 metres long. All the other lines have six-car trains and those lines' stations are 120 metres long (though Line 2's stations are long enough for eight-car trains). What is the reason for Line 1 having shorter stations and trains compared to all of the other lines?

Sort of a cost-cutting measure. Line 1 was built at a time when Chinese planners believed that most Chinese cities do not have enough demand to warrant a high capacity subway system. They believed that most Chinese cities can get by with a handful of light metro and tram lines. Now they realize how stupid that notion is.

Power shortage. It also applies to Shanghai.

Not sure about Beijing's volume management .... likely because of stupidity .

It's like whoever planned Line 1 didn't anticipate a future population surge for the Wuhan area. This may be looked at as an example of bad planning. Line 1, with its short stations and trains, can very easily suffer from overcrowding, and the cost to get the elevated Line 1 to serve six-car trains may be prohibitive.
