Cabinet approves Rajashree Cement expansion proposal

Gives consent for six accelerated irrigation schemes worth Rs 52 cr

Quote:
Bangalore, Sept.8:

The Karnataka Cabinet has cleared Rajashree Cement's request to acquire 24 acres of land for its expansion in Gulbarga district.
The company, in its application to the Government, had requested additional land for expansion of its cement manufacturing unit from 4.20 mtpa to 8.45 mtpa.

The Cabinet, while clearing the proposal, has told the company to buy the land at the market rate and that the Government would not interfere in land acquisition.

The State Government has decided to extend by one year the one time settlement for the repayment of loan by waiving interest and compound interest on the loans availed by the small scale industry entrepreneurs from the State-owned Karnataka State Finance Corporation (KSFC). The scheme had expired in March this year.

The said move is likely to benefit the Small Scale Industries (SSIs) entrepreneurs who had availed loan up to Rs 10 lakh from the KSFC. Many SSI accounts were under NPA due to claims, counter-claims and litigations. The State Government, on the advice of President of India, is to include Wakfs lands in the proposed ordinance to prevent land encroachment.

The Cabinet gave its approval and is likely to be sent to Governor for his approval to include Wakfs lands and also impose stiff penalty and criminal procedures against land grabbers. The Cabinet also gave its consent for Rs 52 crore six accelerated irrigation schemes to be funded by the Central Government.

DC inspects land for cement firm in Padubidri

Quote:
Padubidri, Feb 3,2012, DHNS:
The district administration under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju inspected areas in Padebettu and Ellur for the proposed ACC cement factory.

The factory will come up in 126 acre land in the land identified for NTPC housing colony, government land and private land in Padebettu and Ellur. About 57 acres government land, 41 acres NTPC land and 28 acres private land including 26 houses will be acquired for the purpose.

In the recently held grievance meeting, the villagers had urged the DC to visit the spot. Accordingly, Deputy Commissioner, Tahsildar Prasanna Kumar, KIADB officer Krishnamurthy and others visited the spot.

Speaking to reporters, the DC said that ACC Cement Company will commence the work within 18 months in Padebettu and Ellur. The company will use the fly ash from UPCL. The ACC will open its mixing and packing unit in the region. “As cement is in demand, the factory is essential. The unit will not create any environmental problems. The company will use sophisticated technology,” he said. In the meantime, the villagers who opposed the setting up of cement company, said “we are already suffering from the UPCL. If the cement factory is set up in the region, it would aggravate the problems.”

Few women said that they are ready to hand over their land for a suitable compensation.
For giving wrong information to the DC on Vishwakarma Samaja Mandira in Padebettu, the locals took the KIADB officials to task.

VRL Logistics To Sell Power And Cement Biz

Quote:
Limited is planning to sell its wind power and cement business to strengthen its focus on core business.

In 2006, VRL Logistics commenced wind power business by setting up a wind farm of 42.5 MW at Kappatgudda, Gadag district in the State of Karnataka . The wind farm consists of 34 Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) having individual capacity of 1.25 MW.

The company has entered into a power purchase agreement with Hescom and sells power at R3.50 per unit. According to Sankeshwar - Chairman, VRL Logistics, the company has an outstanding payment of R78Cr from the Hubli Electricity Supply Company (Hescom) and an overdue interest payment is to the order of R3Cr.

In 2010, VRL Logistics formed VRL Cements Ltd to foray into Cement business. The company had signed a MoU with Karnataka government during the global investors' meet in June 2010 to set up a 2MTPA cement plant at an investment of R954Cr.

The company is now dropping the plan of entering the cement business as it requires huge investment.

Founded by Vijay and Anand Sankeshwar, VRL Logistics is in the business of providing goods and passenger transportation services. Currently, promoters of the company hold the entire 100% stake in the company.

VRL filed for an IPO in 2010 but the plans were deferred due to unfavorable market conditions. It was also talking to New Silk Route for a R150Cr investment for acquisitions but there is development on the deal.

VRL Logistics has a total fleet strength of 2,829 vehicles and has 12,000 employees and operations spread across 911 branches covering 2,629 locations in the country. It has in total 56 branches and 515 franchisees for passenger transportation business.

Gulbarga unit marks start of its expansion across South

CHENNAI, FEB. 6:
Chettinad Cement will commission a 2.5 million tonnes a year (mtpa) cement plant in North Karnataka in the current year and has finalised plans to expand into Andhra Pradesh.

The Karnataka unit will mark Chettinad Cement's geographical expansion outside Tamil Nadu and will give it market reach into Maharashtra, where it plans to put up a grinding unit of about 1.5 million tonnes a year, according to Mr M.A.M.R. Muthiah, Chettinad Group's Managing Director.

EXPANSION

The company has firm plans to expand its 11.50 mtpa production capacity by about 15 million tonnes with 7.5 mtpa each in Karnataka and in Andhra Pradesh, where it plans to launch its operations with an acquisition of a 1.5 mtpa unit, apart from a Greenfield cement plant.

These expansions will happen by 2015, says Mr Muthiah.

In Andhra Pradesh, it has substantial limestone reserves following the merger of Allied Minerals and Metals, a private unlisted company in 2010. It has acquired 650 acres in Guntur District where it plans to set up an integrated cement unit with an annual production capacity of 3.5 mtpa and a 100-MW captive plant. A 2 mtpa grinding unit will be established in Visakhapatnam.

In Karnataka, the Rs 900-crore unit at Gulbarga, will take its total production capacity to about 14 million tonnes in the current year. This unit will also feed a one million tonne a year grinding unit planned at Solapur, Maharashtra, which will expand the company's market reach.

Chettinad Cement commissions Karnataka plant

Quote:
Chettinad Cement's expansion plans are on track with the company commissioning a 2.5-million-tonne a year factory in Karnataka, said a senior executive in the company.

This plant, which was commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2011-12, paves the way for its entry into the western markets – North Karnataka and Maharashtra. The next phase of expansion will be in in Dachepalle, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, where a 3.5-million-tonne greenfield plant will come up.

Land acquisition is on and the approvals are under process. The company has entered into an agreement with the State Government for the project, the official said.

Speaking in the context of the company's proposed delisting from the stock exchanges, the official said the move will not in any way impact its expansion plans. The company has opted for internal accruals and bank debt to fund the projects.

The company, with an annual cement production capacity of over 11.5 million tonnes (mt) across three units in Tamil Nadu, has announced plans to add nearly 15 mt over the next three years.

In Maharashtra, the company plans to set up a 2-mt a year cement grinding unit to facilitate market reach. It is also planning a grinding unit of a similar size in Visakhapatnam.

The company is also planning to add to its captive power generation with a 30-MW coal-based plant to add to its existing 105 MW. This will make it fully self-sufficient in power. The addition will be in place by March next year, the official said.

On the buyback of shares from the public as a prelude to the delisting, the official said the company estimates that this would cost over Rs 250 crore. The public shareholding at over 11 per cent is about 44 lakh shares. The exact pricing will be done through a reverse book building process, the official said.
