Couldn't find any Ghana-related development or discussion threads in this forum, but the 2015 All-Africa Games (the games to be held after the Maputo edition) may well be awarded to Accra, Ghana. Since the Ohene Djan Stadium had its track removed as part of a renovation project for the 2008 African Nations Cup, they're looking to expanding the capacity of the El-Wak Stadium to 50,000 from the current 10,000. I looked at Google Maps and saw that the stadium is just south of the Kotoka International Airport and space may be limited for any expansion of the stadium.

Also, about the 2011 edition, there was a proposal for a soccer stadium in another city in Mozambique.

Agencia de Informacao de Mocambique (Maputo)
Mozambique: Village for All Africa Games to Be Built in Zimpeto

Maputo — A village with 106 new four story buildings, and 1088 flats of three bedrooms each is to be built in the Maputo outer suburb of Zimpeto to accommodate athletes who will take part in the All Africa Games in 2011, reports Tuesday's issue of the daily 'Noticias'.

Mozambican President Armando Guebuza visited the site of construction on Monday, and received from Sports and Youth Minister Pedrito Caetano detailed explanations about the work, that is to take one year to complete, starting on 1 June this year. The games are to take place between 3 and 18 September 2011.

On the site, near the National Stadium, the work will consist of building an Olympic Village and a number of other infrastructures, including a multipurpose pavilion, an Olympic swimming pool, tennis courts, a soccer field and an athletes training track.

To build the village the Portuguese government has granted 150 million US dollars, announced by Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates during his visit to Mozambique in March.

Agreements to formalize the grant were signed during Guebuza's visit to Portugal late April, thus giving green light to start the work.

During his visit to the construction site, Guebuza stressed the need to meet the agreed deadlines, explaining that the future village is of great importance for the country, not only as a sports facility, but also in the economic and social areas, taking into account the different infrastructures.

'There being an agreement for the funding, what we must do now is to get to work and advance, because the infrastructures to be built in this site are of great importance for the sports, and for the economic and social areas', he said.

He added that he is not worried with the fact that the All Africa Games are to take place in September 2011, because he was assured that the work will start in June this year and will take one year.

'We are not worried at the moment, because we are still within the agreed time. However, it is important that deadlines are met and, for what we were told, we are in the right track, said Guebuza.

Portugal’s Mota-Engil awarded public tender for Pan-African Games Village in Mozambique [ 2010-05-28 ]

Quote:
Porto, Portugal, 28 May – Portuguese construction group Mota-Engil said Thursday it had been awarded the contract for construction of the Pan-African Games Village in Maputo, Mozambique, to the value of 114 million euros.

In a statement filed with Portuguese stock market regulator, CMVM, Mota-Engil said that the project had been awarded to its subsidiary Mota-Engil Engenharia via its branch in Mozambique and in a 50/50 partnership with Portuguese construction company Soares da Costa.

The work will take 13 months and aims to build infrastructures (roads, water, sewers and electricity), 848 apartments, a raised water storage tank, a ceremonial park and Olympic swimming pool.

“It was also agreed that, during construction, the Mozambican government would find the necessary funds to build the remaining housing units up to a total of 1,088 apartments,” Mota-Engil said in its statement. (macauhub)

Adoro o estádio, não haverá cobertura (sol e chuvas)?
I love the stadium, but won't it be covered to protect from heavy rain and heat?

Abraço desde Portugal e tudo bom para a organização! Façam pressão para a RTP dar mais atenção! Tenho que ver se o Repórter fala dos All Africa Games.
Vou ver se no Facebook há alguma coisa sobre eles!
