I thought I'd posted earlier, but it may have got lost in the melee of dividing/merging threads
![]() Re. the matchbox pubs, I recognised the ones mentioned above, as well as the: Scrogg Inn (now = Walker Club. I've driven past, never been in) Kings Arms (Seaton Sluice - nice pub, great coastal location) But generally, re. Newcastle pubs, a brilliant web-site is the 'Burglars Dog' - I'm surprised no-one has mentioned it on here. The indignant invective tirade against the the identikit bars is superb. But the recognition of good pubs is great too. http://www.theburglarsdog.co.uk/ Even though it's pretty inactive at the mo it should be listed on the useful web-sites IMHO

But no mention of the 'Broken Doll' - that was an iconic pub when I arrived here.

EEEH, when i was a lad and beer was only 16p a pint, but now i`m an old fart (according to my boys) and what you spent on 2 pints now, would get you a good night out, tabs included-when i smoked.

Do you all know about this website?
PUBS NEWCASTLE http://www.pubsnewcastle.co.uk/ I think it's quite good, even if I don't always agree with their opinions. I have included a LINK on our WEBSITES thread, in Section 6. . Last edited by Newcastle Historian; January 9th, 2010 at 02:15 PM. |

)National Express station. God that place was rough! Think the toilet scene from Trainspotting and your almost there, however it did have loads of 'character', I often used to go in when I was at Newcastle College, would regularly get offered cheap 'tabs' and numerous stolen goods, the landlady took no s*it either, if youy dared complain about a drink/ the toilet etc you were told wjere to go.

Yup - very nicely done exterior, but it's not super-posh (not that it's scummy either, it's just very nicely looked after). Worth a wander in, especially after work on a Friday, as I say.
Bodega suits me fine for a first drink. |
