sure they came from a working class background but so have millions of people who we'd now just consider to be middle class if you saw them in the street.
If I saw Colleen shuffling toward me in the street in pink velour and Ugg boots rest assured 'Middle class' are not the first two words that would spring to mind.

Not wishing to sound like a scratched record, but you are confusing affluence and lifestyle with British notions of 'class'. It goes deeper than just having a country pile and horses. By your definition Jordan is Middle class, Jade Goody was, or any chav scumbag who is lucky enough to get 6 numbers on Lotto is.

Colleen might be a bright lass, but there is no doubt she'd be nobody were it not for being Wayne's missus. That's the only reason why she has her own TV show, untold magazine inches, etc... She is vaguely remarkable because unlike all the other WAGs she's used her WAG-dom to eke out her own career, but make no mistake, 99.9% of the money in the Rooney's bank account is because he was born with a footballing gift, nothing more, nothing less.

Fair play to 'em, but I still think they or their children would struggle to be deemed 'Middle class' through no fault of their own.

All kids' fashions look hilarious a few years afterwards. The 2000s is no different. She was a teenager and she wore some OTT stuff just as you did when you were the same age. Neither you nor her need any excuse. Wearing silly, and ephemerally fashionable duds when you are young is good fun. Like snobbery generally yours will be fuelled by fear and insecurity. And it is of course completely hypocritical. Like schoolboy-shagging bigot Iris Robinson hypocritically laying into gay people to feel righteous about her nasty, immoral self, you're slagging off a by many accounts pleasant and nicely spoken young woman for wearing dubious fashions whilst very, very young when you yourself, like many in the 90s nightclub scene, dressed like the technicolor village idiot although you were actually older than she was. Jesus man, what's the problem? Hating a nice young girl makes you look ugly, not sodding superior.

Good spot, Tommy. And even in the "Tubeman" t-shirt/cap combo picture she's a bit chubby, not something she's been for a few years. That photo is old also.

I agree with alot of your points in this thread Tubeman, but girls in Velour/baggy bottoms and UGG boots screams middle class/rah. At uni it does anyway.

D4

To be a 'd4' you have to wear streaky fake tan, have a completely orange face, have lips the same colour as your foundation, have really messy hair which is made to look like you just shoved it up though actually took you at LEAST twenty minutes to arrange, abercrombie hoodies, airtex tshirts with the collars up or the rugby jersey of your boyfriends school(preferably zaga), fat man pants or cantos, and dubes or uggs, topped off with a louis vuitton or juicy cotoure handbag.

To be a real d4 girl, you have to 'like' rugby, ie say you like it and go to rugby matches though not understand the rules at all. You only like it because the guys who play it have supposedly 'hott' bodies. If you are a d4 guy, playing rugby and being on the j's is a MUST.
You also must go to 'the Wezz', a pathetic under 15 disco beside Donnybrook rugby pitch. The only activities that go on there are slut dancing and 'scoring' people.

Bet if you asked a girl who is into fashion they will tell you the clothes she is wearing in the pictures are very expensive if a bit daring.

Did you get that from the 'Rah Manual'?

I've never heard them described as D4's though, or am I missing something?

In Ireland we call them that

Clad in O'Neills, designer jeans or fat man pants; airtex t-shirts with the collars up, Abercrombie and Fitch hoodies, or other American branded hoodies, or generally just wearing designer clothing. And the most common way of recognising these tanned fools is their footwear, uggboots and dubes are their preference.

They also have cultivated an accent similar to posh Americans and upper class British, locally known as the D4 accent. It is recognised by the over dramatised vowels, eg loike and roysh, which are two of their most used vocabulary.

The females usually have tossed hair that looks like they've just got out of bed, when in fact they've spent over twenty minutes preparing this "do". They will also be covered in orange fake tan, and make-up.

The males usually are members of rugby clubs and like this elitist sport.

D4 is a posh area of Dublin City. Big georgian houses, loads of posh schools, home of irish rugby etc.

But you dont have to live in D4 to be D4.

nope, im not confusing the two. jordan isnt middle class (actually she's probably borderline, there's plenty of classless middle class twerps like her), jade goody certainly wasn't, but coleen isn't like those two. you seem to thinking i'm saying that anyone who makes tonnes of money moves up a class - i'm not. there are plenty of footballers who make millions and plenty of wags with cash to spare who remain working class. and there are plenty who do the same and move up the class ladder. everyone's different, there's no single rule for everyone. it's about attitudes rather than money, though money can be the catalyst for thechange. coleen is one of the latter group and a poor example to use. you won't find her like kerry katona down the same social club she visited with her parents as a kid. likewise when rooney is 40 i really doubt he's down the rat and parrot on croxteth council estate. i'd see him more as a shearer - someone born working class but now middle class, than a gazza, who really doesnt change despite the money earned and places lived.

as for their kids, i think it is a tad preposterous to claim they'll be working class. no chance.

Please, don't flatter her by thinking I hate her I really couldn't care less about her. I have merely pointed out, quite successfully, that she dresses like a grade A chav to counter your 'she is not a chav' assertion. Very much a part of the Rooney's marketability is their 'council estate to country estate' success story, it's a modern-day fairytale. Part of that is Colleen, despite being a multimillionairess, putting on some pretty eye-wateringly chavtastic outfits. Maybe it's contrived on her part: she knows which demographic she is popular with and needs to assert that she's still 'one of them' to maintain her appeal. Maybe she's seen the way Posh turned into a hate figure by disappearing up her own skeletal arsehole and decided not to repeat her mistakes.

Dunno why you're deflecting from the debate by making nasty comments about me when I was 17... My basic point is this: I don't believe the Rooneys are Middle Class. You seem to think they are. You said she isn't a chav, I posted photos of her looking like the epitome (and recent ones at that, since she became fabulously wealthy and liable to be papped at every turn). Then you started getting all rather unnecessarily personal.

I'll take it as an admission of being onto a loser, nitey night xxx

The pictures you posted are all years old. And I'm not being nasty about your teenage clothes either. You wore some dodgy threads at that age, so did Coleen and so did I. If you're nightclubbing at the age of 17 you SHOULD be wearing clothes like that.

It's Coleen's job to be a bit of a clothes horse but you'll see her in nothing like the outfits in photos you posted now. Pay attention of the tens of google image search images you must have gone through to find the old incriminating fashion mistakes you selected. She dresses generally smartly nowadays, as these "rah" girls LONDONER1 is telling us about at his uni won't be wearing velour trackies in their mid-twenties either.

And I've also grown tired of explaining her (not actually terrible) background and the fact she was a good and fairly high achieving student at school. Without Wayne she's have ended up university educated and middle class anyway.

Like Johnny said. a terrible example for you to have picked (perhaps the singularly worst amongst WAGs). She was never particularly rough to begin with and has done more with herself than most.
