Why would you need a tablet? I don't see why would anyone need this if they already have a laptop or whatever.

^don't know yet..

I guess it comes down to how many they can produce - there will be a great demand!

Looks pretty good from the back and side - very slim!

I was hoping it would be more of a carry-around computer than an oversized iPod, which is what it appears to be. It would have been cool if this would be a machine that you could set up on a desk to do some basic work on, like word, excel, internet with a wireless key board (that touch screen version is no good for lots of fast typing), and just take the screen on your way out.

What multi tasking have you ever needed on the iPod Touch or iPhone?

Apps close instantly and load instantly to the point you were - and you have Push notifying you of all you need to know - I really don't see a need..

That's the point, it's really just an oversized iPod. I kinda expected more out of it. No multitasking makes it pretty useless to do some proper work on it. Now it's just a cool looking fun machine. I can't see myself doing forum related work on this machine while on the road, which would have been great. Plus I doubt if I'll ever get the hang of reading books from a screen. I'm going to leave this thing to those who think it's important to look cool.

But it has never prevented you from doing that - switching APPs takes a second and they are where you left them when you boot them up.. it's just two "clicks"

Well it will connect to keyboards and it will be able to run the iWork APPs

( and with Apple and MS's new found friendship to counter Google - ports of the MS Office Programs can't be far away )

And if not Open Office will surely be available in App form for it...

I feel the same way, but since I'm nearly not getting any paper books read anymore ( damn you internet! ) I guess I'll be willing to give it a try..

On demand books and a larger English section will definitely be welcome IMO compared to what I'm stuck with here

I do have an ipod touch, that's why this seems useless, it's not as portable as the ipod and you cannot do proper work like in a laptop so why would anyone need this? other than because it's shiny.

Why would't you be able to do proper work - it supports virtually all programs you have in OS X and can be used with a keyboard if you don't want to use the touch keyboard..

Of course it's not a laptop - they already make those - it's a tablet

Personally I want one because I use my Touch a lot around the home and when traveling - while my netbook and laptop gathers dust in a corner - and the iPad will allow me to have better internet browsing, better image viewing and better movie watching ( when on the go ) - basically all I enjoy from the Touch and iPhone only bigger and better ( and with some new options )

All the iPhone/Touch Apps will btw also be compatible and you can upscale them to fill the screen ( plus many will come in new high res iPad versions )

In my opnion this tabblet is just great..i mean kills the idea of having a netbook. And the price of 499$ is good for me. I just hope that Apple Brazil dont overprice the iPad here in the country.

Screw the iPad. Playing with buttons are more immersive imo...

And it doesn't even have Flash! What's the point?

I'll stick with my laptop (and PSP)

x1000000

the only thing i think the ipad is missing it's a webcam and maybe a multicard reader or a USB port.

I don't see the draw of the iPad. Isn't it just a fancy, stylish netbook with bad specs?
