Great updates MI, you are doing a wonderful job

Btw, i tried to click few snaps, but you know its difficult to do that with all the luggage and other security stuff etc. Sorry for the low clarity.

The immigration needs to go a long way, it took me around 40 minutes to get out of the terminal, even though 5 counters were open and that was peak traffic time.

When, i landed, there were 4 AIE, 1 Air India, 1 Indian Airlines, 2 Jet Airways, 1 Bahrain Air, 1 Kuwait Air, 1 Spice jet in the parking bay.

My Jet flight I loved their service

Airlines oppose compulsory 'Fly Lakshadweep' order

Private airlines are opposing a civil aviation ministry directive to deploy a small percentage of their capacity to the Lakshadweep islands. In their defence, they say the local airport, Agatti, has limited capacity to handle aircraft.

Currently, only government-owned Air India’s subsidiary, Alliance Air, and one private airline, Kingfisher, fly to Lakshadweep, from Kochi and Bangalore, respectively. The new rule, issued last month, means other airlines would also have to introduce flights.

Good Pics Malayaali..

One Doubt.. Why Jet is always parking in remote bays? Even MCT_COK flight(9W 533) used to park in remote bay always. Extra charges to be paid for using bridge or some thing like that????

Yes, Aerobridges charge more than ground transportation and mostly all budget airlines shun aerobridges. But the strange part in Kochi is, General airlines like Jet shun Aerobridges, while no-frills airlines like Air Arabia or occasionally AIE takes aerobridges.

But many times, Jet Airways offers compartively lower rates, despite of being a full frills airline including food and entertainment. May be they are saving costs like this.......

Thanks MI for your reply.
Just now I was going thru schedules, I can see that Jet flights from SHJ and DOH are flying to MAA and BLR after their international service. As remote bays are very much near to Domestic terminal/ aerobridges are only meant for international terminal, it may also be a reason for them to opt Remote parking bays.

Thats not an issue... Because Domestic terminal has a connection to second floor which takes to the airside corridor which is separted from International departures waiting area. Hence if they want to use aerobridge, they can, which does not prevent them. I had a once used the same from Domestic to board KF Flight to Mumbai.

But now-a-days they are not using it much, as most of domestic flights are using ground transport than aerobridges. Even in Mumbai or Bangalore, the situation is same. I never got a chance to use an aerobridge in Mumbai, Chennai or Bangalore for domestic sector... But its different in Hyderabad and Delhi, where even domestic flights dock with jetways. Cut throat competition, higher fuel costs may fueled domestic airlines to try all possible ways to reduce costs.

Anyways, when the current terminals gets converted into domestic terminal, surely it gets around 5 jetways or even more for domestic purposes itself!!!

Ya .. Main difficulty is those who are travelling with luggage, difficult to get into Air India shuttle bus. I had seen most of the passengers were sticking near to door side to get down fast.

As u said lets wait for a new hi-tech international terminal..

Just happen to see one website in which we can track movement of flight over specific region. From India I can only see MAA airport radar over there. Is it possible to host COK radar details on this website. I think CIAL is n process of installing primary radars.

Just have a look in this website..http://www.flightradar24.com/

Thanks..

Onam Promotions at Cochin Duty Free

Aldeasa-Alpha Kreol India managed Cochin Duty Free has initiated a major promotion with leading drinks companies Pernod Ricard, Diageo and Moët Hennessy to celebrate Onam, the largest festival in the state of Kerala.

The initiative follows the roll-out of an earlier promotion in partnership with Beam Global Spirits & Wines at Cochin International Airport.

Celebrated throughout the state of Kerala, Onam is a harvest festival linked to the legend of King Mahabali whose spirit is said to visit and bless his subjects at this time, according to Kreol Travel Retail Chief Executive A.S. Lal. The festival is marked by rituals including grand feasts, song, dance, games and fairs.

Expatriate Keralites often link their annual homecomings to this occasion, which is also a major tourist attraction, he noted.

“We expect a substantial increase in footfall and average spend by our loyal and valued customers during August, September and October. As this is summer vacation season for ex-pat Keralites, families coming home for the holidays will be greeted with these surprise offers at Cochin Duty Free,” Lal said.

Expatriate Keralites often link their annual homecomings to Onam, the largest festival in the state of Kerala

The highlights of this promotion, which features at both Arrivals and Departure outlets, include:

• US$5 off Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve
• Buy two bottles and get US$4 off Johnnie Walker Black
• Buy two bottles and get US$3 off Smirnoff
• Buy two bottles Chivas Regal 12yo and save US$8
• US$6 off Chivas Regal 18yo
• Buy two bottles of Glenlivet and get US$6 off
• Buy two bottles of Ballantine’s and get US$4 off
• Buy two bottles of Hennessy and save US$6

The promotion also includes offers from major confectionery brands.

I am in Maldives and working in Maldivian Air Taxi. The same model radarbox is installed in our office too. Airport radar name is VRMM. It has no connection with Male' International airport radar. You can go through Maldives area in flightradar24.com. You can see a number of radars installed there. All are not airports..but they are resort islands. All most all resorts are equipped with this radarbox. Normal airport radars won't broadcast traffic over internet. But This particular radarbox comes with a software that helps to broadcast traffic through internet.

More information is availabe here http://www.airnavsystems.com/RadarBox/order.html

If CIAL can afford to buy a radar like this it would be good as we all can view traffic of COK, TRV and CCJ.

Thanks Abhilash for this valuable information..

Some queries.

1. Is this radar box needs to be interfaced with ATC radar at any point ?

2. If this radar box is installed some where near to COK , how is it possible to see air traffic of CCJ and TRV.? COK can handle only flights with altitude below FL250.(25000 ft)

Cheers man...!!

Radarbox has nothing to do with airport radar. Its totally independent. All we need is a system and high speed internet connection.

It has coverage of around 300 sq kms, so it covers TRZ some areas of IXE also

You are talking about COK airport radar.

Radarbox is a receiver system that eavesdrops on the data channel of the radar, from which it gets the transponder info. You can buy one and install it at your home, and get info from all the planes. You don't need any co-operation from the airport for that.

I am not exactly sure if it is legal in India, because ANY kind of radio receiver must be licensed here, unless specifically exempted by the govt.

Thanks for that wonderful information. I don't have much info abt the flight type information. I thought it to be same, seeing the unique position of engine in aircrafts. Joy Alukkas flight is shown in the video just above your mail.

Anyways, nice to see our airport is really growing......
