+/- 300 million speakers vs +/- 60 million speakers.... plus most of the exported English language culture is in American English.

But that's just what comes to mind if I was the one to make such a decision.

British English is taught in school but when it comes to business English, American English is more popular in China. The reason may be that majority of English speaking companies coming to China are from US or Canada.

I believe Chinese public schools have switched to American English about 10 years ago.

Maybe on college level. But other than that public school text books teach more British English than American English, i.e. IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) is taught instead of K.K.

Line 1 and 2 opens in early 2013 and line 3 will open in 2016. All three are under construction. I hope that the airport line opens as scheduled on 28 July.
