I can confirm that there is progress along the entire route of line three。

I have no doubt that the rumours of the expected opening of line three being pushed back into 2017 are true it‘s cause for major concern。

I would say that works will commence of lines four and five after work is finished on Line three。 Line two and line six is currently under construction。

I didn't knew line 1 branch to the South Station was already under construction! Even it is now in test running according to Ditiezu forumers, with a planned opening by the end of September. I didn't expect that, at least not before line 3.

It wasn't reported here that line 6 suspended operations back in March, and will reopen by the end of this year when line 3 opens. This was done in line with the test runs of the latter. Line 6 is also being extended towards the city center.

In other news, the entire original 2008 plan, albeit with some changes, is now under construction. They envisaged this for the long term, and that network will be in place as soon as 2020, only 12 years later. That's the Chinese meaning of 'long term' .

Unfortunately there is no way Line 3 will open by the end of the year in fact in its current state it will most likely open around March/April next year. The whole of the orginal proposed network is under construction except for Line One phase two and Line Five northern section. Although the section of Line Four that runs inside the second ring road is yet to begin.

So, what are the projected openings for next year? Which line will serve the new Kunming South Railway Station?

The next metro line opening will be 2017-01-05 , the spur line of Metro Line One that will connect the HSR station to the Metro network.

IN 2017 the only other opening should be Metro Line Three phase one, with Metro Line Three phase two and Line Two phase Two and Line Six Phase two opening in 2018 hopefully.

More high-speed trains available in Jan.
8 Dec. 2016
Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN travelers will be able to take a high-speed train to Kunming, Yunnan Province starting Jan. 5, when the new national train operation schedule takes effect.

According to the schedule released by Shenzhen North Railway Station, a new pair of high-speed trains, G2924/1 and G 2922/3, between Shenzhen North Railway Station and Kunming South Railway Station will be added to the new schedule.

The trip will take about seven hours, cutting 22 hours off the trip that regular express trains take between the two cities.

Train G2918/7, between Shenzhen and Guiyang, will be extended to Kunming and will be renamed G2926/7 and G2928/5.

The rail line between Guiyang and Kunming, which is scheduled to open Jan. 5, marks the completion and operation of the whole Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway that runs a total of 2,266 kilometers.

Thank you! I'm looking at the Kunming metro planning map now, and that HSR station looks pretty far away from city centre to be honest. It looks like a trend in Chinese citites nowadays.

Another thing: I've heard that Kunming Railway Station is quite a walking distance from the metro station of the same name, do you think it's true?

There wasnt' really enough space downtown for the HSR station and Chenggong was considered by the most suitable alternative site. It is also located on the side of the city closest to the proposed link to ASEAN .

For me personally I don;t consider the walk from the metro to the Kunming station to be excessive but most people don't appreciate the ten minute walk , the real issue is there is no access to the station from the southern side hence the walk.

it looks like between Chunrong Street and Tuofeng Street stations there will be a split - some outbound trains head to University Town South and others to Kunming South Railway Station
