ok this thread is confusing the under construction Al-Masha'er Metro lane (WILL BE USED FOR ONLY 5 DAYS DURING HAJJ SEASON FOR PILGRIMS) and other metros planned for the future within the city (not under construction) with an other under construction project which links Makkah city with Madina (where the prophet's mosque is, 3 million prayed there las ramadan month) called Haramain train HSR

the pictures in this thread are of both projects -_-

Does it count as a metro if it doesn't go underground?

Of course it does. The term "Metro" is quite vague now - it's more of a form of identity rather than specific transportation term denoted specifically for technology and/or construction method. In fact, many terms in today's public transportation infrastructure are also similar.

So are the photos below from the Hajj metro, the regular metro or the high speed rail?

It looks like the suspended mono-metro thing was not built. Is there still a plan to build it?

Cheers, m

I heard there will be total 5 lines-

1. Phase 1, The Pink Line, is a loop of four parallel lines between Mena, Muzdalifa and Arafat with three pick-up/drop-off stations at each place. The four-line loop splits into single tracks covering all the encampment zones in Mina. Mina will be the last station for the metro line and will be located towards the west of the Jamarat Bridge. The pink line will be linked to all the four floors of the bridge with elevators. The four parallel lines move south towards Arafat before reaching a main station next to the Arafat Mosque and splitting again into single-lines to carry pilgrims into Arafat. The lines come together again and move towards Muzdelefa where pilgrims will spend ceremonial time before returning to Mina. The line will run on a viaduct with the depot located at the end of the trail behind the first station in Arafat. A turnaround loop is planned between the last station and the depot. Passengers can transfer to the Red Line or the Blue line at Mena station. This line entered service in November 2010.
2. Phase 2, the Red Line, is a straight link between Mena and Mecca.
3. Phase 3 and 3A , the Orange Line will connect Mecca to large multilevel parking facilities at Resaifah to the west and other parking facilities to the south.
4. Phase 4, the blue line, will connect Mena to the west side of Mecca through a big loop to the north. phase 4A is a straight extension south off the blue line loop.
5. Phase 5, the Yellow Line circles Mecca with a straight extension to the north, This line connects to the Red Line, the Blue Line and the Orange Line, thus facilitating continuous metro service between the parking areas and Arafat.

The description is quite confusing in just reading. Is there any details map of future lines?

Is there any official website of Makkah Metro?

It is very strange matter that Makkah metro runs only during Hajj, and only acceptable for Muslims. It is a grate matter of shame.

I hope city centre extension and new lines will be made as soon as possible, and the subway will be opened to all.

Because the Metro is located on a area used only for haj (Mina valley).

But new parts will be opened all the year.

Will future lines also be elevated, or be partly underground?

Please try to answer these -
1) What is the target year of extending line 1?
2) What is the target year of opening line 2, 3, 4, & 5?
3) Left side, right side or both side, - which type of platforms are in most numbers in Makkah subway network?
4) Elevated, ground level or underground, - which type of stations are in most numbers in Makkah subway network?
5) Which are the highest and deepest stations of Makkah metro?
6) Which is the busiest metro station?
7) Which stations have interchange facility with suburban rail network?
8) Where is/are the depot(s) of the subway network?

The whole city is for Muslims only. Non-Muslims are not allowed in cause the religion of peace and tolerance won't have us.
