In the last 5 seasons the average attendance of Hull FC v Leeds at the KC has been 13,463. With last fridays attendance of 12,513 is it so inconceivable that 950 people (475 hull fans, 475 leeds if you like) decided not to attend the KC because they spent a small fortune 5 days previously. It cost me nearly 2 hundred quid for the Day, and I certainly was not going to any sporting event this weekend. Please tell me why my statement would be classed as 'bollocks'. |

I would like to think so. The attendances would certainly increase if it was held up here. I don't quite understand why the RL are pushing the welsh experiment. Great stadium, great atmosphere in the bars and around the ground but the welsh are loyal to the other rugby code. same could be said about London

The kc is pretty central and with the current derbys the ground is a sell out so increase the ground to around 40,000 and it would be ideal. I hope in the very future anaby road is more central, with hotels, restaurants and bars going down it.

Most people mention Huddersfield as a possible venue. Leeds elland rd would be suitable.

That's what I thought (elland road) but the problem with that is there's nothing around realy, to replace Cardiff the stadium would have to have a central location.

True. The whole surrounding area of Cardiff is what makes the whole experience work well. Probably why Murryfield was a let down.

Huddersfield? Surely the idea of a 'magic weekend' is to go somewhere different and make it a big occasion in a big, modern stadium?
Elland Rd? It's falling to bits! Rugby League should try take small-steps rather than try to run before it can walk. The best thing it could do would be to try attract fans from just outside the M62 corridoor. Have the magic weekend somewhere like Derby's Pride Park, Nottingham's City ground or perhaps somewhere a little further afield like Villa Park in Birmingham or St.James' Park in Newcastle... but as you say RL fans don't like to travel, maybe go for Blackpool's Bloomfield Road. |

Huddersfield is a modern stadium and the discussion was that the stadiums they choose are too big. Who said RL fans don't like to travel?
Newcastle? Good idea. |

It's not that they don't want to travel it's just they want a stadium that has a full atmosphere, and is a in a central location surrounded by bars etc

The Galpharm isn't that modern - I've been many times - I went to uni in Huddersfield. The away concourse isn't even built into the stand and doesn't have a roof! very modern.
It's not central to the town centre either and is a pain to get to for those walking from the train station as you have to cross the busiest road in Huddersfield and then climb a stupid hill. Most of their fans drink in the town centre and leave early to get to the games as there isn't that many places to drink near the stadium. As for travelling, you mentioned the 'magic weekend' should be further North so people don't have to travel. The magic weekend is supposed to be an 'occasion' - something people should 'want to' travel for. When Hull City played away at Portsmouth, which is even further away - I think City took about 3/3,500k fans and that's just an ordinary league match at a ground many people hate as the facilities are soo poor. |

I said it should be moved up north to a more suitable venue. The idea of the magic weekend is to showcase the sport. It has been played in both Scotland and Wales with talk of Dublin. The discussion was the empty seats in the stadia selected.
Rl fans also travel in their thousands each year, Wembley, Old Trafford and the south of France. Huddersfield has been mentioned on other Forums as been central to the RL area. I would class the galpharm as being modern but hey ho that's personal opinion. Elland rd falling to bits, this needs to be reported to the relevant authorities as peoples life's are at stake. |

Elland road is fine! Yes it's due a revamp but it's getting a revamp so there's no problems there, there's also plans to expand it to around 50,000! Anyway see the Leeds ssc thread if your interested.

Yeah, I read it - only if the club can get a loan from the council, which is very 50/50, as Ken Bates doesn't have a penny to scratch his arse with.
Also in the thread, it was full of people saying the full stadium needs re-doing. pull this down, pull that down etc, etc... |

And legolamb I don't think walking is possible the old rickety buses that go from the city centre to elland road arnt that special either. But with a hotel, shops and a few restaurants planned many magic weekend would be ok there however there's still the fact that elland road is miles away from the city centre. |
