Help Save the Portage Theater!

Members of this forum that reside in Chicago, please help out in saving the Portage Theater! From their official website:

Quote:
The historic Portage Theater is currently threatened by the potential purchase of the building it is in by a church. The church proposes to convert the theater into their worship space, remove the marquee, alter the auditorium, and eliminate the storefronts and half the apartments for offices and classrooms.

There will be a public meeting about this challenge to our community on Monday, March 26th at 7:00 PM at the Portage Theater, 4050 N Milwaukee. More information at 45th Ward alderman John Arena's website.

What You Can Do

Write to the Zoning Board of Appeals

Zoning Board of Appeals
Attn: Johnathan Swain, Chairman
121 N LaSalle, Room 905
Chicago, IL 60602

Write to the 45th Ward alderman

Alderman John Arena
4754 N Milwaukee
Chicago, IL 60630

or email him at [email protected]

Think about why the Portage Theater is important to the community and to Chicago as a whole.
Does any other building in the community fill the need that the Portage fills?
Think about Portage Park - how often do you come here? How far do you come to get here?
Are there other businesses you love visiting when you're in the neighborhood?

Attend Portage events Bring your friends Buy snacks and drinks Enjoy the show!

It is already perfectly working as a theater, and many here (including me) consider it one of the most amazing theater in history, with the Etna volcano on the backyards and the mediterrean sun and sea as a decoration. Pictures are just too plain to show its beauty, ruins are just most beautiful, modernity never undestood how amazing ruins are!

I used to be of the same opinion, but having seen it I actually think it's fine and would be a waste of money in these times to replace it. Italy must have more beautiful theatres than the rest of the world put together, that country is such a treasure house of wonderful architecture, I love it!!

Well, I don't like it, I support the petition to change the facade on facebook for example...
But anyway, here is the google streetview of the theater to see it kinda live...the palms actually are a good choice for the plaza, of course...they helps hide the facade!

http://g.co/maps/bdgbg

the facade before wasn't exactly exuberant as one might expect from rome...
