August 24th by someMidTowner.

Yonge Street is a flurry of activity - Aura stands at attention.

Nice pics! Guess this is not the regular street life here? Extremely busy.

They've closed Yonge Street for Buskerfest, which lasts for the weekend.

About 15 blocks of Yonge were closed off for an event. The sidewalks are usually packed to over flow though. With tons more residents downtown over the next 2-3 years and more attractions, something's gotta give. I wouldn't be surprised to see Yonge narrowed to 1 lane in each direction.

I started my first photo thread documenting a recent trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Have a peek: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=724898

They have talked about that for years now and nothing has happened.

This was taken from a 2011 article ( http://www.thestar.com/business/2011..._yonge_st.html ), "proposes dramatic changes in the section between Dundas and Gerrard Sts., including widening sidewalks, reducing car traffic to two lanes, and making it pedestrian only for special festivals."

But it takes us 3 years and millions of dollars to get 4 food trucks on our streets. Narrowing Yonge to 2 lanes will take at least 20-30 years of discussion.

Once pro car Mayor Ford is out I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. (Specifically if Chow wins the next election)

The only way to narrow it down one lane in each direction would be to make Yonge Street a one way street from Front all the way to Bloor and bi-directional from there.

Just like Broadway in New York City.

I wandered around it last week, and through the little square that is forming between all of these new condominium projects around College Park.
The horrid, cheap little PoMo shack if thankfully going to be torn down and there will be new landscaping in the little central park.

It is starting to be noticeable from large portions of the city now.. I could easily see it from the CNE this year, and I am noticing it as far away as Stouffville.. (it is nothing but a tiny speck 35km away, but still visible)

this looks quite good from every angle except the north, where it is extremely ugly. it looks better in those photos than in real life.

I think this building would look absolutely beautiful if it was just the top section extended all the way to the bottom.

A rough sketch as to what it could have looked like that way.
