And the photo re-imaging helps me confirm what I thought, that it looks much better the way it is currently being built. A blue, squared-off oval would be boring to the max.

As opposed to the architecturally daring design it currently is?

The best and only redeeming part of this building is the sheer glass facade at the top. The rest is forgettable at best.

Agreed. A tall blue squared off oval would have been really dull.

This is a mid-price range condo building and makes no pretensions to being "Iconic". It is what it is. Every building can't be iconic, and growing cities need affordable unit towers, too.

Seriously?? It would have looked really elegant, with the curved sides and dark glass. As it is currently it's really cluttered and incoherent.

I agree, that would've been cool.

If it didn't want to be iconic, it shouldn't have been the tallest building since Scotia (not counting Trump's spire) and *by far* the tallest building outside the main cluster. It does Toronto's skyline a disservice by putting a lower quality building front and center in a location where it will remain the dominant skyscraper for the foreseeable future.

It may not be iconic, but I think it will look quite good once finished. Besides, it won't be alone for much longer and will likely be joined by taller neighbours within the next 10 years.

Wow! What a beautiful tower! It is remind me a bit of tallest building in Omaha, Nebraska. Of course Aura is much nicer!

I always find it odd when people criticize a building's massing before it's finished or without looking at the renderings. I have a feeling some people will do a flip flop on this one. It was always going to look bulky till the top portion started to rise. AURA's not the best building in the city, but exactly what was needed in this location.

I think with the mechanical, this one will end up being a winner. I love the look of the curtain wall, in particular the lines that are running up and down it.

I think for the most part it's a good addition and I especially like how it looks from Yonge Street.

AURA will likely make a bigger impact on our downtown than any other this building cycle do to its location. It's the first building that's helping stitch the CBD and Yorkville together. Definitely one of those transformational buildings.

$17 Million For Penthouse in Canada's Tallest Condo

Quote:
Aura Condos at College Park will be the tallest residential tower in Canada when it is completed. Designed by Graziani + Corazza Architects, the building will have a total of 985 units and all the glitz and glamor you would expect from a high, high rise. The top floor penthouse, 11,370 square feet of luxury, is priced at $17.5 million. Other penthouses in the building are priced at "only" $2.2 million for 2,200 to 5,000 square feet.
With the Marshalls flagship store, and Bed, Bath, and Beyond already open on the main floor, the future home of Canada's tallest residential building will have underground access to the College Park subway and 180,000 square feet of other retail space. For those die hard fans, you can watch the live construction progress over here: http://www.collegeparkcondos.com/webcam.html

The Aura Condos will be completed in 2014.

I wonder what the monthly condo fee + property tax is for that unit.
