This one is nearly done, but not quite. probably about 2/3rd occupied right now, but there is still some cladding work to do on the north side on the upper floors, and final exterior landscaping around the base.

I was questioning this building when they were installing the cladding for the middle section, which was looking horrible! Now that it is nearly complete, it looks far better and now I don't have any problems with it. It has a great street presence, the cladding looks awesome as a part of the finished product (which relies on a tripartite scheme with the cleanest cladding at the very top and the less well engineered cladding at the bottom, similar to the stone carving schemes used in Italian Pallazzos) and some series height capped by a simple but beautiful split concave crown.

Friday views

I was downtown on Yonge 2 days ago, and snapped some pictures of the building. First time I have seen it completed, from up close.

Compare to about a year ago, looking east at the building:

And I guess the 1 Bloor West (where Stollery's used to be) would knock it down one notch further.

From some angles this looks very like the CTF Finance Centre in Guangzhou.

The developers used some cheap looking glass on this building. I wish it looked like how it was proposed.

the curved portion uses some nice glass, but the square portions look pretty bad.

It isn't too bad in person though, ground level is fairly nice which saves a lot of it.

Ground level is fine as is the top. The rest isn't anywhere close to what the rendering promised. I suppose we'll have to wait for a re-clad to get what they should have done in the first place. They don't build quality into construction like they used to so we might only have to wait till 2040.
