They don't look to big if you ask me...

Better comparison would be:

Grapop metal meeting (Belgium)130.000 visitors VS Wacken open air (Germany) 85.000 visitors

The two biggest metal events in the world..

ps: More visitors doesn't mean that it is better. Wacken open air is just faster sold out than Graspop Metal meeting.

Another comparison:

Both pop festivals:

Pukkelpop (180.000 visitors) VS Rock werchter (320.000 visitors.)
Sziget is one of the European giants (one island, 10 days, 370.000 visitors). It's beter teamed up against Glastonbury or Burning Man. I do not know Exit.

I like the idea of staging festivals, although I'm not sure how well acquainted the international crowd is with Pukkelpop and Rock Werchter. I know both but even I have no idea how to judge them...

only one australian building? The q1 is pretty hard to beat, but i would've liked to see the eureka tower, or one of the new U/C or proposed buildings from brisbane.

proposal :
Battle this appeal to many participants of the forum. I suggest the following format: make the principle of the Cannes Film Festival, this time everyone who was in the top 8 (or 4 best) to give the title favorites skyscrapercity 2011. In 2012, those who received a nomination, no further part in the competition, to conduct battles among the 4 categories: Old School, trivialized cube design skyscraper, progressiviti design skyscraper, renders. in each category will receive only one title favorite skyscrapercity 201х.

While I like the idea of 'festivals' instead of arbitrary one-on-ones, I think that the long voting period is killing the concept.
7 days may be alright and well in the preliminaries, but as soon as there are only 8 contestants left, the voting time should be cut down to (I guess) 2 days. Most people are visiting this site daily anyway, and losing a couple of votes should be preferred over the extra days of idle time.
With a 7 day period, you get 14 waiting days in every tournament, with a 2 day period, it's just one.

you should do a Melbourne vs Sydeny tower v tower world cup style thing. Melbournes top 10 V Sydneys top 10!!! it would be great! such rivalry between those two cities down under!

I really like the historic architecture competitions. I have a suggestion:

Neuschwanstein Castle, Hohenschwangau, Germany

VS

Church of the Savior on Blood, Saint Petersburg, Russia

both pics pulled from google images, but I know there's nicer pics of both out there!

Hello Jan.

Todays One on One:

Chichen Itza
Yucatán • Mexico » info

Colosseum
Rome • Italy
» info

Colosseum looks like the Great Wall in China. Please fix it

later edit: it seems you have fixed it

Would love to see a tournament for towers like the Space Needle, CN Tower, Stratosphere, Sky Tower etc.

I think the Space Needle would even have a decent shot

I have a general question for tournaments and one-on-one's. I notice voting opens and close at mid-night local time. If I'm in London, it means voting closes one hour earlier. Same goes for banner changes.

Is it possible to have fixed times for rotations and voting opening and closing so that everybody in the forum gets the banner and tournament vote window changed at the same time according to that of the admins in US?

Like Bom Jesus do Monte in Braga, Portugal.

If you're a logged in member, voting starts at midnight at whatever timezone you have set it. To prevent that people in a later time zone are able to influence the voting, a contest closes for all on the same moment, which is seven days after the voting start on midnight Pacific Time. If you are not a member, the contest start at midnight Pacific time as well, but as non-members don't get to vote, that's not really relevant.
