Not exactly parallel but they are not far away from each other. NH-2 runs near the right bank of Yamuna (west of Yamuna) while Yamuna expy runs on the left bank (east of Yamuna)

That's the alignment of NH-2 with respect to Yamuna. Yamuna expressway will be on the east side of Yamuna.

Is Yamuna Expressway running through Aligarh and other reasonably large cities? If not, the only purpose of this road is to get from Delhi to Agra. Also, what are the plans for exits on Yamuna Expressway?

Not through Aligarh but close to it. It is mainly supposed to connect Delhi and Agra and develop new cities and townships in between

Means it will run parallel to NH 91 and 93. When we have NH 2 and NH 91 & 93 what is the need for Yamuna Expressway.
IMO the upgradation of both these highways would have made more sense. Anyways we can't expect anything sensible from Mayawati. |

It isn't possible to develop NH-2 and NH-91 to 8 lane expressway with 2-3 lane service road on both sides without creating Singur like situation. Both of these highways pass through developed regions and they can be only minimally upgraded. Plus this expressways opens large tracts of land for Greenfield development being close to Noida and Greater Noida and Faridabad.

IMO, govt. should six lane bangalore-chennai or some other major route rather than delhi agra. The Yamuna expressway will suffice for the near future. These funds are more needed for development of expressways in other regions.
But if a company is ready to make it with a negative viability gap, then the govt. should go for it..not otherwise |

You might be aware of the fact that in NHDP Phase-5, about 6500 km of 4 lane highways will be 6 laned, out of which most of the length belongs to GQ. Now obviously the busier sections of GQ will be 6 laned before the less busier ones. That's why sections like Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Panipat, Delhi-Agra, Mumbai-Surat, Bangalore-Chennai, Bangalore-Hyderabad and Kolkata-Dhanbad were given higher preference. Yamuna expressway has a different purpose. Its purpose is mainly to provide point to point connectivity between Delhi and Agra and later turn into an urban freeway like Delhi-Gurgaon expressway by developing the virgin areas from Noida to Agra as per the agreement. It will also open up a lot of virgin land for urbanisation. This is an example of development leading urbanisation.

Map of Upper Ganga Canal Expressway
![]() Source It is an 8 lane expressway and starts from Sanauta Bridge near Dehra in Greater Noida and ends 10 km before UP-Uttarakhand border. Length of the main expressway is 141 km and that of the 4 links is 74 km. It's route is quite parallel to proposed 8 lane Delhi-Meerut expressway and NH-58. So many wide roads would be an overkill in short term. Rather an 8 lane expressway could have been built in east direction instead of North-east. It will also have links with Eastern Peripheral expressway, Greater Noida expressway, Yamuna expressway, proposed Delhi-Meerut expressway, NH-24,58 and other highways in the region.

UGC expressway extended by 8 km
Length of Upper Ganga Canal expressway has been increased by 8 km from 141 km to 149 km and now it will be linked to NH-58 near Pukarji (Muzzafar Nagar). UP govt will discuss with Uttarakhand govt to extend the expressway to Haridwar.
Authority said this project will be successful because of links with Eastern Peripheral expressway and Yamuna expressway. Pre-bid meeting has been extended from 8 March to 24 March and date of announcement of developer's selection has been extended from 29 March to 22 April. Full Article
