Questions on Dublin/Ireland
hello,
my name is ronald, i'm from austria. I've just a few questions, according to Dublin. How is the weather during the year? Is there much rain? How is the climate im Summer - how high are the temperatures in Summer? Is there also snow and ice in Dublin and Surroundings? What do you think, is the weather for asthma patients good or bad in Ireland? P.S. I'm thinking about moving to Ireland for working and living. Thanks, Ronald |

Hi Ronald,
One word for Dublin's weather is unpredictable... It can be sunny, windy, rainy, cold and hot/mild all in one day! The timing of your question is a little weird as the weather seems to be really changing here over the last 2-3 years. We've had the wettest three years on record. Climate change is very much a reality here! Compared to Austria, I guess winter time temperatures are quite mild. Normal day-time temperatures would generally be between 4 and 10 degrees celsius in December/January and Feb. This January has been the coldest on record! Summer temperatures are generally cooler than in continental Europe. The average day-time temperatures would range between 15 and 21 degrees celsius! Temperatures rarely go above 25degrees celsius, but temps can reach 30degrees or more in the Dublin region. Rainfall varies between around 625mm in south-east Dublin, 680mm in the city-centre to around 730mm at Dublin Airport in the north of the city. Most Dubs complain about the rain all the time, but statistically it rains on fewer days per year than any other major city in the UK, Ireland or the Benelux region. To me, it feels like it rains a lot though! It rarely snows in Dublin (it snowed this year), but it snows annually on the hills immediately south of the city. I have no idea if the climate is good or not for asthmatics? |

P.s it's not a particularly sunny city. Looking at the stats on Met Eireann, the average sunshine levels is around 1500hours a year over the last 10years or so!
In Ireland: The Mid-east and South-east are the sunniest and driest regions. The North and West are the wettest and dullest regions. |

Weather in Dublin, and Ireland on a whole, is basically the same as the Weather of the UK. Throughout the year, there is A LOT of rain - but hey, we aren't so green for no reason
It is quite rare to have more than a weeks snow in Ireland per year - that doesn't mean we don't regularly witness sub-zero conditions and ice though! Summer is a real hard one to predict. There are years where it rains (I've even witnessed snow as late as May before), and other years where there are warm days and blue skies, with occasional showers. The Av temp of Dublin on its own is around 12 - 16 degrees C. Hope this has answered what your looking for. I'm sure if you move to Ireland, you'll meet some amazing people and have some of the best moments of your life Good luck.Whoops. Just saw Nordisk celt reply with pretty much the same thing. Never mind lol Last edited by Conor; January 25th, 2010 at 06:02 PM. |

@Conor
Are there good clubs in Dublin? Which music is played? Also house clubbing music? Are they also opened during the week evening? |

Deffo. Dublin is known as a party/nightlife city. Stay away from Temple Bar though, unless you want to see it from a touristy aspect. Locals tend to avoid the area. You should be able to discover your own bars and clubs through time. There is always live music, a great energetic atmosphere and you won't believe how easy it is to get into an in-depth conversation with strangers. There is a good mixture of modern clubs, with great DJ's, down to traditional atmospheric Irish bars. You won't be disappointed.
