Babušnica northern entrance. This sign is very old.

Strangely, the exit sign is newer:

Not a sign, but here is an entrance sculpture for Moscow:

There have been rumors of a project to create new sculptures and place them next to several major highways.

It is kind of funny with so many languages but they paint over one only.
It is like "no, we're super multiethnic and tolerant ! Except for those guys, they're jerks!"

The painted over name is an alternative and historical (pre WWII) version of the name in Serbian, and that name is not official. I'm not defending these vandalists, but putting that name on the signs carries a pro-monarchist political message and the vandalists percieve themselves as "radical republicans".

The name should not be there if it is not official. I do not support any kind of vandalism anyway.

It is already common in Ukraine(built by Soviets or Ukrainians). Sorry can't show photos. My s***ty phone is as stupid as the brick.

As of this year Latvia has begun the change to EU-style city-entrance road signs, which would make it more clear for foreign drivers who have been known for not understanding the existing signs. Change will take place until 2018.

These signs are better for urban agglomerations like in Western Europe, where urban limits and city(town) limits don't neatly overlay one another and merge. But didn't really have a problem with that.

In Serbia we have this sign which means "urban settlement" and 50 km/h speed limit starts, no matter where is other sign with settlement name displayed:
