TK* | Turkish Airlines

Since air transportation is booming in Turkey for a decade now, it's about time to open a topic about I here.

Well the latest exiting development is the sponsorship of Turkish Airlines. Turkish Airlines is going to be a new sponsor of FC Barcelona and Manchester United for 3 years. Both teams will use Turkish Airlines for their continental and intercontinental flights.

That's the B777 which FC Barcelona is going to use for intercontinental flights

That one will be sued for continental flights, mostly for Champions League

Turkish Airlines Raises Number of Passengers

Quote:
Turkish Airlines, the national carrier of Turkey, raised the number of its passengers in 2009 over 2008. Turkish Airlines (THY) released a statement and said the number of its passengers was up by 11 percent in 2009 over 2008. The company carried 25.1 million passengers in 2009. This figure was only 22.6 million in 2008.

Also, the number of business class and transit passengers in international lines was up 6.2 and 43.4 percent respectively in 2009 over 2008.

The cargo and mail service of the THY was also up by 19.6 percent and reached from 198,837 tons to 237,783 tons in 2009 over 2008.

Founded in 1933, THY made its first international flight to Athens, Greece.

Turkey's national air carrier has recently announced that it had placed a firm order for 14 Airbus A321-200 and 6 Airbus A319-100 passenger planes as well as an optional order for the purchase of 10 Airbus A319/A321s.

THY is one of the fastest growing carriers in Europe. The Istanbul-based airline is using Istanbul's Ataturk Airport as a hub for flights to Europe, Asia and Africa in partnership with the Star Alliance group of airlines.

BTS is among the 20 new destinations to be served until 2012

Slovakia is nearly the only country in Europe which THY does not serve but this will change soon

THY is increasing its flights to KHI to 1 daily (plane yet unknown). Daily flights to ISB and LHE also to start (the news was ambiguous, so I think it meant daily). Awaiting permission from Paki gov., which will be given.

After the Kevin Costner ad, FC Barcelona and Mancherster United sponsorships THY has a new stragety now. It's going to cover skyscrapers of global cities with huge THY posters.

Bangkok is the first try.
