TURKEY AIMS FOR AIR TRANSPORT AGREEMENT WITH PERU
Quote:
LIMA, June 7 (NNN-ANDINA) - Turkey aims to reach an air transport agreement with Peru due to the increasing demand from Turkish citizens to visit the Andean country's tourist attractions, said Turkey's Ambassador here Namik Güner Erpul.

“I have already coordinated a draft text of an air transport agreement so that this facilitates flights between both countries,” Ambassador Namik Güner Erpul told Andina.

He has also held meetings with representatives of Turkish travel agencies and tour operators, which are keen to promote Peru as a tourist destination in South America.

"They have great interest in including Peru in their itineraries in South America," he said. "There’s always a high demand because whenever they are organising tours to the continent, Peru is a must. The busiest routes are Brazil-Argentina-Peru, Brazil-Chile-Peru, and Brazil-Colombia-Peru."

He said that Turkish Airlines, which operates daily flights between Istanbul and Sao Paulo with a layover in Dakar, plans to launch the Sao Paulo-Lima route.

"The flight between Sao Paulo and Istanbul takes about 11 hours, while flight time between Sao Paulo and Lima would be about five hours, which will boost air traffic between the two countries," he added.

This is cool. Will they have Istanbul-Lima direct? Or via São Paulo? TAM Brazilian Airlines can also do São Paulo-Lima in partnership with TK as they are both members of Star Alliance...

A minor correction: flying to São Paulo from Istanbul, Turkish Airliens does not have to stop in Dakar. Few days ago I flew from HKG to GRU and IST-GRU is direct. TK now has dedicated plane for Istanbul-Dakar route.

Turkish Airlines starts direct flights to Ugandan city
Turkey's national air carrier has started direct flights to the Ugandan city of Entebbe.
Monday, 14 June 2010 14:36
Turkey's national air carrier has started direct flights to the Ugandan city of Entebbe.

Speaking at a press conference after a ceremony held at the Entebbe International Airport on Monday, Turkish Airlines (THY) chairman Hamdi Topcu said Africa had become an important continent and a strategic partner for Turkey in the recent term.

Expressing Africa's significance for THY as well, Topcu said his company had experienced the highest rise in the number of passengers from Africa with a 49.1 percent increase in 2009.

Topcu also said THY was currently the 4th biggest company in Europe and the best airline company in its region.

"Turkey's rising star THY serves its customers with a young fleet of 142 aircraft. The company, which carried 25.1 million passengers in 2009 and aims at reaching 32 million passengers this year, owns the youngest fleet in Europe," Topcu noted.

Delivering a speech at the press conference, Rama Makuza, the head of Uganda's civial aviation authority, stated that THY's launching direct flights to Entebbe would improve the economic and commercial relations between Turkey and Uganda.

Scheduled flights between Istanbul and Entebbe would be conducted three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Entebbe has become THY's 14th direct flight destination in Africa after Benghazi and Tripoli (Libya), Cape Town and Johannesburg (South Africa), Algiers (Algeria), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Dakar (Senegal), Khartoum (Sudan), Cairo (Egypt), Casablanca (Morocco), Lagos (Nigeria), Nairobi (Kenya) and Tunis (Tunisia).

Based in Istanbul, THY is one of the fastest growing and prosperous airlines in the world.

The airline's main base is at Ataturk International Airport, with secondary hubs at Esenboga International Airport, Sabiha Gokcen International Airport and Adnan Menderes Airport. In 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, THY carried 17 million, 19.7 million, 22.5 million and 25.1 million passengers with total revenues of US$2.23, US$3.0, US$4.5, and US$4 billion, respectively.

THY posted 387 million Euro of profit in 2009, becoming the top five airline companies following Air China and Ryan Air in the world that recorded the highest profit in 2009.

THY is a member of Star Alliance and has more than 12,000 employees.

Yes! The logo is safe (and I'm very thankful of that, lol)...just some modification on the colour and some design. I'm actually excited about how they will going to work on the fuselage as well...
