If Russia were to host the world cup, wont it be a logistical nightmare ? I guess it would be like South Africa but even worse because of the size of Russia. How many host cities and whats the distance and transport options for traveling between the cities ?

EDIT-Never mind, I breezed thru the posts few pages before this one. Great post by AILD. Certainly looks like a great bid which means expectations will be very high if Russia win the bid. Some of the stadiums are just breathtaking

In last 10 years Russia hosted more than 300 sport events. Including big events like UEFA Cup Final, Champions League Final, Eurovision, various one sport World Cups, etc.

There is NO DOUBT in security in Russia during sport competitions and it was proved many times.

But again, uninformed people rising it under question. Well, that's why they are uninformed..

US bid is nearly twice larger in terms of distances between cities.
Seattle - Miami: 4400km
Los Angeles - Boston: 4200km
San Diego - Baltimore: 3700km
and many other routes of over 3500km

Longest distance of Russian bid Kaliningrad - Yekaterinburg 2500km. All other router in all possible ways and variants are under 2000km.

So Russia is not largest/longest bid. Not talking about the fact that it's much closer to Western Europe and Far East.

Railways are far better in Russia (except suburban - almost same poor quality). There are no plans for HSR Moscow - Yekaterinburg, but I very hope they will make it if Russia take World Cup.

Speaking of domestic airlines - it will improve significantly by 2018. Almost all large cities are building new terminals right now. Plus Sukhoi SSJ-100 will be ready by then.

Of course if England won 2018 I won't need to do a crash course in Russian

Security is one of FIFA's preeminent concerns, Mo. Don't think discussing it was in anyway out of line.

Won't do it anymore though.

I agree 110%, unfortunately construtive debates around the topic never work around here and are therefore banned completely.

Feel free to post articles related to security measures a bid will put in place but there is a fine line between an article and a full blown political/security related debate which spirals.

On the issue of the delivery stadia, one would assume that the pace of construction in Sochi with regards to all its venues would be a good indicator that there would be no such issue if Russia was awarded 2018 or 2022.

great pictures AILD. gawddamn, Russia really wants to host the 2018 world cup.
Russia's history pre/post Soviet union is immense and its a country I would definitely want to visit during the world cup if Russia wins the bid or later on in my life
if only brazil were serious and they're hosting it in 4 years having known they would host the world cup for 5 years running or even more!! Russia or England seem like they are already prepared and can even host 2014 mundial if they were told tomorrow.
Sorry for taking a dig at Brazil.
