Awaiting the IPL call

It’s pretty early to say whether the IPL Kerala team would comprise mostly cricketers from the State or not.

But, players of the City Cricketers Club here have already started their efforts to fully utilise this opportunity to fulfil their dream - of becoming a member of the IPL Kerala team squad and thereby a part of the sporting extravaganza called the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rohan Prem, Raiphi Vincent Gomez, P. Prasanth, Sanju V. Samson and N. Niyas, all members of the State team as well as the City Cricketers Club, are considered among the probables of the IPL Kerala team from the city.
At the Medical College Ground, the MCG of aspiring cricketers in the city, one can see them having special training sessions for lofted shots, innovative and cheeky scoops and for clearing the boundary lines under their coach Biju George.
Rohan Prem is the current captain of the Kerala Ranji team

Raiphi was in the squad of the Rajasthan Royals, while Rohan, Sanju and Niyas attended the camp of Kolkata Knight Riders. Prasanth went to the camps of Deccan Chargers and KKR teams.
The players will definitely get cheers from the tinsel world as film director Priyadarshan is the president of the Club and superstar Mohanlal is its patron.

IN MY OPINION, THE TEAM SHOULD HAVE THE BEST TALENTS ACROSS THE WORLD AND SHOULD NOT COMPRISE OF PLAYERS EXCLUSIVELY FROM KERALA. ENHANCING SKILLS CAN BE ACHIEVED ONLY BY PROMOTING BEST TALENTS IRRESPECTIVE OF GEOGRAPHIES FROM WHERE THEY COME FROM OR ANY OTHER SUCH CRITERIA

this guy will spoil the name of keralites better keep him away from kerala IPL team so that we may atleast get some support from non-keralites. I would like to see Brian Lara as Team Kerala IPL captain.

Kerala IPL

Now the real things are coming out .. on how Modi and the North Indian lobby tried to thwart the Kerala bid. It also shows the amount of hard work put in by Tharoor and his team in overpowering influential business houses such as Adanis.

from Tharoor's interview to NDTV

Barkha Dutt: Should you have been this involved?

Shashi Tharoor: Look I see myself in this particular case as seen through a process that I would have to begin, these people would not have bid for Cochin had I not urged them to see the merits of Kerala, is it appropriate for a minister to boost his or her own state or constituency, absolutely because I am simultaneously the MP of my constituency, one of the paradoxes of our Parliamentary system is that you have to be doing two full time jobs at the same time, you are a full time minister and you are a full time MP, by that same logic everyday when I go to my constituency or political meetings or every petition I receive from my constituents that I forward to other ministers should also be quote unquote inappropriate because they have nothing at all to do with my work as minister of state for external affairs. But, in fact, that is what Members of Parliament do in our system, and particularly Lok Sabha MPs do have an obligation to represent their voters. So, obviously, I'd have been happier still if the city in question were, Trivandrum rather than Kochi, but the idea, the promoters told me, was that they would use the team as a Kerala team and that they would play in Trivandrum as well as Kochi, when the stadiums are built. So, I had a legitimate constituency interest to advance this team's prospects.

I'm sad for Sasi Sir.
He has worked really hard to bring an IPL team to Kerala.
Sad to know that he is facing lots of criticisms

Latest News is that the members in the consortium has a plan to shift IPL from kerala to Ahmedabad.

Here is the Link.

The site for the future......

Paid a brief visit to the site where work on the massive new Main Stadium complex for the 35th National Games will soon commence....

36 acres of land at Karyavattom, close to the LNCPE. The latter is visible in the background.

I was told that the towers were part of a decommissioned Physics experiment. They can be seen from the Highway in front of the Karyavattom campus, so the stadium itself should be clearly visible from the main road.

Soon we will have India's newest stadium and a sprawling sports complex on this land.

thanks for those location details. I was having the impression that the stadium was coming up on the other side of the Hoghway, ie the Technopark side. 36 acres will be good enough for the stadium, looking forward for the design and lotta other details

Nopes, the stadium complex is on the other side, but you can see Thejaswini and Bhavani from the site.

Stay tuned for more!

The land is quite elevated and view from the stadium and view of the stadium will be fantastic.
IMHO they should really do something about the accessibility, the present roads leading to this plot are very very narrow, especially from the Technopark / Highway research institute side. From the LNCPE side its OK but nowhere close to what an international stadium requires.

The approach roads will not be a problem. Land will be acquired to increase the width once the main stadium is done with.
I anticipate a competition from builders to build highrises around the area!!

Scorpio - As far as I understand, a dedicated 4-lane road will be constructed from the Highway to the Stadium complex, starting from East side of the Highway Institute. The approximate location of the entrance was cleared for parking during the Indian Science Congress.

Karyavattom Stadium site - Satellite Image

The stadium site is the large cleared area in the center of the frame. Above it is the LNCPE complex.

The distance from the NH is about 700 meters.

For NH connectivity, land on one side is completely with University/Government.
My house is very near this (near the Oceanus heights site), and some land near this since acquired by Univ Of Kerala later given to LNCPE used to be owned by my family.

BTW, while we were growing up, our conjecture regarding the radio tower was that it was some defense related thingy. There used to be a guard house near this, and a gate and a road leading to it.

University of Kerala still owns unused parts of land near technopark, which could have been used for TP expansion when there were a queue of land requests, and GoK was sitting on it.
