LC now ‘closer’ to Hong Kong

BY LEILANIE G. ADRIANO
STAFF REPORTER

HONG KONG is now closer
to Laoag City following the
launching of direct flights from
the said bustling Chinese center
of commerce to the Laoag
International Airport.
Daily flights arriving at the
Laoag airport have brought a
lot of visitors to Ilocos Norte’s
prime tourist destinations which
showcase Ilocandia’s trea-
sures—from white sand
beaches, cultural heritage sites,
gastronomic delights to the
warmth and hospitality of
Ilocanos that offer unique experience
to tourists.
On May 23, 10 Hong Kong
media persons visited Laoag City
and Ilocos Norte for a five-day
tour.
According to Ilocos Norte
provincial tourism officer Joegie
Jimenez, foreign media were
brought in by travel agencies so
they could see for themselves
and experience what it feels to
be in Ilocos Norte and to appreciate
the wonderful things it
can offer.
Upon their arrival at LIA,
the visitors were motored to
Pagudpud known for its serene
white sand beaches, Batac
City’s food treats, Paoay’s St.
Augustine Church, and to the
Juan Luna Shrine in Badoc.
With the tour done in coor-
dination with the Department
of Tourism, the visitors were also
brought to Vigan City in Ilocos
Sur.
Through the provincial
government’s continuing effort to
promote Ilocos Norte as a prime
tourist destination in northern
Philippines, Jimenez said tourism
stakeholders would benefit from
this.
He expressed hopes that
more tourists would be charmed
to visit Ilocos Norte and make it
their home away from home.

I figured it is not C-140 or even 130, I think those have 6 engines, 3 on each wings I believe, I could be wrong though.

Hongkong flights to Laoag cancelled beginning today
by Cristina Arzadon

Laoag City (26 August) -- The aftermath of the Manila hostage taking has began to be felt in the city with the indefinite suspension of flights from Hongkong to Laoag and vice versa beginning today.

Milagros Gonzales, provincial tourism officer, confirmed that twice weekly flights from Hongkong to this city and vice versa have been suspended indefinitely.

"We were informed that all bookings in two major hotels in the city have been cancelled since Tuesday," she said.

Ronal Estabillo, manager of the Laoag International Airport, said he got a letter from executives of the Hongkong Express Flights notifying him of the suspension of the twice weekly flights to Laoag.

Estabillo said there was no mention of the reason behind the suspension as it was a standard procedure for operators to suspend flights without stating the cause.

He said, however, that the last flight coming from Hongkong today is set to arrive as scheduled to transport back the remaining Hongkong nationals who visited the city last Sunday.

Gonzales said the city's tourism industry is bound to feel the impact of reduced number of tourists because of the flight cancellation.

She said Hongkong tourists have been steadily coming to Laoag before the Manila bloodbath. At least 1,200 Hongkong nationals visit the city monthly for rest and recreation purposes.

Gonzales said the only other international flight from Kaoshiung, Taiwan to Laoag is expected to be cancelled as well in response to the travel ban imposed by Chinese authorities to the Philippines. Around 200 Taiwanese nationals visit the city on a monthly basis.

"We hope to bring back these tourists in the coming days when the anguish over the tragedy has died down," she said. (PIA Ilocos Norte)

Big blow talaga yan sa Ilocandia kasi the Chinese are the only source of international tourist sa province.

tsk tsk tsk tsk. It might take two to three years before the Chinese would have confidence on safety in the Philippines. It maybe longer than that but hopefully its not.

Cebu Pacific airline opens the Macau-Laoag route

CEB when you need 'em!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Along with the economy recovers and the demand of air travel, Cebu Pacific will launch the Macau - Laoag route on September 20, 2010.
The departure time is in every Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:40pm, and the arrival time is in every Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays at 2:05am. Including this new destinations, there are a total of 13 flights weekly to and from Macao to the Philippines operated by the Cebu Pacific Airlines for the passengers among Manila, Clark and Tuguegarao and Laoag.

In order to cope with the air travel demand as well as reduce the impact of VIVA airline’s bankrupted, Macau International Airport will actively develop the mainland and international markets, continuing to work with the Civil Aviation Authority of Macau and airport operators to strengthen the communication and liaison with airlines, to fully support them for route development, reduce operating costs, improve the quality and efficient services.

We believe that with further recovery of the global economy, Macau International Airport will certainly attract more airlines to Macau in priority on their route development plan with the perspective of local airlines foreseeing the image of Macau as "the Center of International Travel and Leisure".
