There's scaffolding around the Cavern pub (formerly the Corner House) on the Exchange roundabout, Sans Street/High Street East. It looks like they've removed the roof, which was damaged by fire a year or more ago, so I wonder whether it's being rebuilt, or demolished?
I've long though that would make a terrific student pub, even if it meant being taken over by the dreaded Scream chain. Besides the Uni-sponsored bars, Sunderland doesn't really have a proper student pub, though obviously some places attract a large student contingent. Interesting that Sunderland's Varsity isn't really a student pub at all, despite Varsity being a student-orientated franchise elsewhere in the country. |

I think it's in a great location, especially if the eastern half of the city centre continues its regeneration, and the university continues to thrive.

Was reading that the former East End Vicarage at Prospect Row, --is now a Bar and Bistro called, ---Watermans Tavern, ---there's a lot of History attached to this building, ------and I was wondering if anyone has been in, --and if so, --whats it like, thanks.

I haven't heard of anyone mention this place, ---I read something about it's History, --and apparently --John Hurt the Actor, ---his Father worked in the Vicarage at some time, --would be good to see the new Bar/Bistro do well though.

The Musuem Vaults seems to be going from strength to strength packed out before and after the match yesterday. Its a fine old pub.

I was in Watermans in the Eastend yesterday and they have done a very good job with it. Some cracking old photos of the Eastend/Hendon on the walls including one of the original Watermans pub.

I've been meaning to have a pop down, it looks like they've done a superb job. It's about the East End - Sunderland's hidden gem - was helped along with some private development. Is the bar open all day? And until what time?

I hear the city centre is to attain a third Wetherspoons pub? In the old Blu Bambu/Beach nightclub, on Albion Place. It's certainly well located, and hopefully will bring Bar One in from the cold.
