I AMsterdam

Since my only day off is thursday I decided to give the capital of the Netherlands a visit. It takes me only 30 minutes with the train to the city center since I live next to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Yesterday the weather was perfect, today it actually sucked. But Amsterdam is always pretty!

I made a total of 438 pictures this afternoon. I then created a selection of 70 pictures wich can all be found on my Flickr. I will only show you another selection of pictures right now, 33 to be correct. Please visit my Flickr page for more!

1-We start at the Damrak area, this is a long street towards the famous Dam square. Damrak is one of the first things you see when you leave the train station and walk towards the city;
image hosted on flickr

2-Truck is parked next to an old building that is being renovated, it's located at the Dam square;
image hosted on flickr

3-Damrak (street) has been closed for a while wich causes some traffic jams on the Rokin;
image hosted on flickr

4-The Regulierbreestraat. The Tuschinski cinema, is located in this street, wich is known for the movie premiere parties in the Netherlands;
image hosted on flickr

5-It takes ages for the trafficlight to turn green here...;
image hosted on flickr

6-The Rembrandtplein (southern part on the pic) has been renovated. It's now not that green anymore but looks a lot better;
image hosted on flickr

7-With todays weather it looks ugly, but imagine people enjoying the sun on this small piece of grass;
image hosted on flickr

8-The bridge wich crosses the Herengracht (Gentlemanscanal) is being rebuild;
image hosted on flickr

9-The Utrechtsestraat, no trams in this street for a while. Most parts are being renovated;
image hosted on flickr

10-Purple t-shirt and curtains. I've been told that some parts of the glass are also purple (used to be a thing in the 19th century);
image hosted on flickr

11-Bridge crossing the Prinsengracht (Princecanal);
image hosted on flickr

12-The luxurious 5 star Amstel hotel at the river Amstel;
image hosted on flickr

13-The Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge) crossing the river Amstel, only for bicycles and pedestrians. At the left behind the bridge you can see the Hermitage museum, wich is the newest museum in Amsterdam;
image hosted on flickr

14-Theatre Carré, also located at the river Amstel;
image hosted on flickr

15-Staircase in the Nieuwe Kerkstraat (New Churchstreet);
image hosted on flickr

16-Driving a boat through the canals isn't very practical ;
image hosted on flickr

17-New style Amsterdam canal, kinda boring. No more Amsterdammertjes or trees or parking spots. This is next to the Hermitage musuem;
image hosted on flickr

18-Street Amstel next to the Hermitage museum;
image hosted on flickr

19-The Aäronkerk (Aäronchurch). In front the Waterlooplein and on the right of the Aäronkerk the Mr. Visserplein;
image hosted on flickr

20-The Staalstraat (Steelstreet) is realy nice and cosy;
image hosted on flickr

21-Typical Amsterdam, the Zuiderkerktoren (Southerchurchtower);
image hosted on flickr

22-All the snow and rain of the last few weeks caused this;
image hosted on flickr

23-Nice bridge on the end of the Staalstraat, this is where a part of Ocean's 12 was shot;
image hosted on flickr

24-Back at the Rokin, the traffic jams are over;
image hosted on flickr

25-The Damrak again with the central train station in the back;
image hosted on flickr

26-Restaurant at the Dam square, part of the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church);
image hosted on flickr

27-We are getting closer to the central train station;
image hosted on flickr

28-Cranes at a construction site next to the train station;
image hosted on flickr

29-Bicycle parkinggarage next to the central train station;
image hosted on flickr

30-Photographer, probably working for the NS (Dutch Railways);
image hosted on flickr

My personal favourites

31-Porsche Cayenne in a beautiful area, can it get any better?;
image hosted on flickr

32-The Blauwbrug (Bluebridge) with the Amstelstraat (Amstelstreet) behind and the The Bank building;
image hosted on flickr

33-The Blauwbrug (Bluebridge) again. I was lucky with this man, he was only resting for a few minutes. Below the bridge you can see a part of the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge). Above you can see the Carré theatre on the left, the Amstel highrise district and the Amstel hotel;
image hosted on flickr

Nice, but I really hate the red(ish) bricks used for paving streets and squares in Amsterdam (and other European cities I´ve been to).

What a great pictures, really enjoyed watching them. I will check your Flickr page soon. You got skills to make nice pictures, even with such weather conditions. Amsterdam is a lovely capital city, but I haven't been there for many times. Shame on me, it's a great city.

Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks for sharing, I've been twice to Germany but never to the Netherlands, I'll make sure to visit Amsterdam someday. BTW one of my former co-worker was from the Netherlands, quite a friendly person and loves to talk. Hehe!
