Romania has some impressive medieval and historicist castles. Mainly in the former "Germanic/Teutonic" areas (also known as Siebenbürgen).

Sighisoara, Pelisor and Iasi or some fortified churches come to mind.

^ What the heck? Why posting some imaginary castle here?

You could give some information about this thing at least. People start to annoy me here.

You're referring to the Culture Palace from Iasi

Thanks for the links. The German translation of "castle" is pretty blurry, as English speaking people mainly understand it as (medieval) fortifications. It could mean "Schloss" (palace) or citadel (Zitadelle) in German as well.

I never really liked the castles of Great Britain. They're lacking ornamentations, details, specific elements that make castles impressive. Also looking quite rustical, not that pleasant at all.

The castles of Central Europe are unbeaten in that regard.

I'd definitely agree, I just find many of the older castles which have that weather beaten look a lot more impressive. You really get a lot more sense of place and although they look very nice, many central European castles are just a little bit too camp for my liking

It's Hogwarts from the Harry Potter series.

It surely is the ultimate castle.

Ah, well. I actually prefer Hohenzollern Castle (Swabian Alb, Germany) then.

Yes I'd definitely agree, what a pity it doesn't exist

In the book and film it's setting is at least real - Loch Shiel, Glenfinnan in the Scottish Highlands,
