Schloss Thun, Switzerland

We don't usually think of castles in Switzerland, but they several that are well preserved, including the one at Thun.

More from Switzerland

Perhaps the best known castle in Switzerland is the Chateau de Chillon. The interior has been restored to something like it must have been in the Middle Ages and is fascinating to tour.

Sorry about this

I did not mean to post the photo of the Chateau de Chillon this large. I am sorry but I don't know how to reduce the size of the image now that it has been posted. Any help would be appreciated.

Go back to the page were the image is hosted, choose a different image resolution (bellow the image) and then change the link on your post by clicking on the "edit" button.

No "Edit" Function

Thanks for the advice. Strange, but the only way that I can get to the "edit" function is to originate another message and then it will return edit functions on all that I have posted.

Thanks for the help.

Changes at Versailles

I don't know how many of you have been there recently, but the large equestrian statue of Louis XIV that once stood in the entrance courtyard at the Palace of Versailles has been removed. It was not original to the Palace and has been relocated in the interest of restoring the courtyard to its original appearance.

That's interesting. In Berlin we have a similar case. This equestrian statue wasn't originally standing in the court of honor of Palace Charlottenburg either:

Originally it was standing on this long destroyed bridge near the City Palace:

When they were rebuilding the bridge (in modern form), they were thinking about moving the statue back...but in the end decided against.

Since this is the best palaces-thread, here also the garden of Charlottenburg:

This is the castle at Rozemberk in southern Bohemia in the Czech Republic near the Austrian border. (German: Schloss Rosenberg) It is considered to be one of the oldest castles in that country. Additionally, it is small enough that you can imagine someone actually living there even today although it is now a very interesting museum.

While the castle is on Lake Thun, that one is called Schloss Oberhofen: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberhofen_Castle

Schloss Thun is also nice:

The same as to say that Italy has only 150 years of history after Repubblica Italiana creation.
