Mauritzberg. History for this place dates back to early 1500, but what we see today was built 1722-25.

Sweden is a country with a long tradition in architecture. Beautiful photos. It's a pity that some photos are of poor quality, they are small.
I think the "golden age" for the palaces and castles is 1700-1800.

Good luck!
Sorry my English

I would say "golden age" is 1600-1700.

Stockholm: Haga Palace, unfortunately never realized

Thank you, Hasse, for this impressive thread. I enjoy it for several evenings. My small contribution: the never built big Haga Palace, designed by Louis Jean Desprez, a French architect, for Gustav III.

Only the foundations were laid, then the king was murdered and his successors had no interest and no money.

Here a drawing of the palace by its architect Desprez

Desprez' plans for the Haga Palace

section through the palace's central part

It would have been one of the most splendid Neoclassical palaces ever built.

This was really built in the Haga Park: the Copper Tent, drawing by Desprez, who designed it in 1787.

I like the Gustavian era and the European 17th/18th century architecture, not only in Sweden.

Stockholm: Masreliez Rooms in the Hotel Östergötland

If you like that, here a little bit more Gustavian style, the Swedish Louis XVI style.

Here the apartment, which designed the French-Swedish painter and architect Louis Masreliez for Wilhelm Schvardz in Stockholm, finished 1795.

The small beautiful rooms are today owned by an insurance company and they are only very rarely open for visitors.

The drawing room

The dining room

Another room

The small private bedroom of Mr. Schvardz, who was a rich merchant and a bachelor, on the left his bed.

The so called Masreliez Rooms are in the Hotel Östergötland, a 17th century house in the old city of Stockholm (the corner house in the photography below)

Btw. above you can see King Gustav's "Petit Trianon" in the Haga Park. This pavilion (# 111)was also decorated by Louis Masreliez.

Here his drawing for the decoration of the Grand Salon in that Haga pavilion:

I love it
