[Czech Republic] Public Transport Thread

Didn't find suitable thread so I decided to found one .

There's new bus line number 292 in Prague, the shortest one! Operated by two electrical minibuses for 32 pax max between Malostranske square and Pod Petřínem hospital in Mala Strana district every 15 minutes between 5:30 and 20:00.

Great video from the winter ride

I'd really love to see that thing with 32 people inside.

BTW nice stop signs there:

(I suppose that it can be seen in the video as well, but my flash plugin is kind of broken again)

The windscreen wiper looks like it belongs to something much bigger LOL! It could flatten the battery in one sweep!

Okay, so I'm going to post my trolleybus-related posts here instead of "Trams" thread...

SOR TNB12 is being tested in Ostrava. Photos. Man, that's hideous. And that color scheme doesn't help either.

For me it's OK, considering its low price. Face is less important after all.

Well, face is OK (and I'm used to it, since approx. one in four buses running nearby where I live in Prague is NB12). But the "hump" on its back... I never thought that I'd call 24Tr a beauty, but compared to this...
Anyway don't get me wrong, the design is the last thing that bothers me regarding public transport vehicles.

SOR proves itself as the plague of Czech public transport again...

These SOR vehicles are sort of controversial to me. I appreciate that it's a Czech company, but come on, the design can be far better, what decade are we living in people?

I personally hate tramcars and buses with a cheap plastic look. I feel somewhat alone in this opinion of mine, which surprises me a lot. I really don't like the new Berlin Flexity trams or the Polish refurbishment experiments with Konstal trams. And some of the SOR buses, especially the older ones which I often see in service for ČSAD Střední Čechy or DP Ústeckého Kraje. It's about details in most cases. Details around the windows and doors and on the face of the vehicle are important for the overall impression that I get from it.

This new SOR series is just OK, but only without the huge box on the roof and with a very well chosen color scheme (something at which Prague is very professional, IMO). I was a bit disappointed though by its ability to cope with the horrible roads in Prague. The Citybus is very uncomfortable on imperfect roads, but this new SOR is not much better. Shouldn't the state of the roads be taken into consideration in a tender for 500+ buses?

Anyway, I hope that SOR will evolve into something of less plastic and more quality. Because the vehicles used in public transport are simply very important for the image of a city. I'm proud that my city operates well-chosen comfortable buses with a nice color scheme. And they renewed the whole fleet in just one night. On the first day there were only old 90's buses, on the second day only brand new buses were operating. It would be incredible to see something like that happening in the Czech Republic in future.

I noticed they changed metro line D route a bit, it will join line B at Náměstí republiky station

I just downloaded a few pages from the urban plan to study their plans around Prague 10, 11 and 15 and I'm not really impressed. They want to extend the Nádraží Hostivař tram branch to serve future greenfield sites between Štěrboholy and Dolní Měcholupy. Why don't they stay a bit realistic and extend it to the isolated neighborhoods Hostivař and Petrovice (and eventually to Uhříněves)? The second tram line they want to build in the area is an extension from Spořilov to Jižní Město. Why? Jižní Město was built around metro line C! People from such suburbs which were cleverly built around metro lines (I lived 9 years in Nové Butovice myself) will not use the tram which is many times slower. The tram only has some potential in the northern part of Opatov, which is far from the metro station. Why don't they build a line from Spořilov which would just touch Jižní Město and serve a more isolated area like Sídliště Košík? The line could be connected to the Nádraží Hostivař branch behind Košík.

I would be grateful if someone who knows the area well could evaluate my views and proposals.

I found nice video about public transport system in Brno. Nothing for hardcore fans but nice entertainment for afternoon coffee. I really like the beginning with old tram going through the city center and Dominikánská street

Nová budova by pak mohla stát do konce příštího roku, řekl ředitel společnosti Jan Konopásek.

On June 10 in Ostrava (Czech Republic) presented the launch of the first trolley in a joint project of Bogdan and Cegelec. In 2010, Bogdan and Cegelec expect to realize in the market of the European Union and 30 trolleybuses co-production, and in 2011 - 100 trolleybuses. Importantly symbolic meaning of this event for Ukraine, because the corporation "Bogdan" the first of the transport engineering companies entered the market in the EU.
