The Paris of the East... looks pretty run-down and that's a shame.

And Detroit Michigan was once known as the Paris of the West. That distinction no longer rings true for either city.

The people are friendly and most guys look very sexy. The city is a bit run down, especially lots of secondary streets are broken. I don't know if it's still a poor country or not, but I can tell you that if you work abroad and then bring the money back to Romania you can live like a king (especially euros)

Awesome photos of a beautiful city...however it looks more rundown then expected, I thought it had went through heavy modernization like Warsaw and Budapest (that on the other hand still have some rundown areas too). Anyway, I have heard that Romania is far from as poor as it used to be. At least I can spot several modern cars on the streets and modern highrises popping up here and there.

Well there isn't too much left from the historical part cause Ceausescu destroyed it almoast entirely to build that long boulevard you see in the pictures and other of his megalomaniac projects so Bucharest dosen't really have a historical value like Budapest or Warsaw.
Of course Romania is poor regarding it from the swedish side but not as it used to be ."several modern cars"-you would be amazed to see how many modern cars you will find here (think as a smaller copy of Moscow in what's concerning luxury) but of course that dosen't mean we are a rich country .
There are a lot of new highrises in Bucharest as it is Eastearn Europe's most attractive. If you have time you could follow the Romanian forum.

There are more expensive and more luxury cars in the largest cities in Bulgaria than USA. Does that mean Bulgaria is richer than USA? No. Cars have nothing to do with the condition of a country

Well ure right, i am quite sure there are more "expensive cars" in Bucharest the in whole Sweden, I have no doubt actually about this. So that remark was stupid and ignorant.

Here (and in Bulgaria too I suppose) are many modern cars and re;latively many luxury cars . Becouse ppl tends to put more money in cars relatively to their income, compared with western countries. Western people have other priorities, houses, holidays, while east-europeans put first cars then others, in a try to show their "financial potency" in public, after years of communist and poverty/poorness frustrations. Here included peoples that made ilicit revenues (we have still more corrupt society than westerns - think about "affairs" with public moneys) and show off with luxury cars.
