TRONDHEIM | Ocean Space Centre

TRONDHEIM - NORWAY
Ocean Space Centre
Ocean Space Centre on Urbika [1] [2]

The conceptual idea by architect firms Snĝhetta and MIR is to create a huge man-made island in the middle of Trondheim Fjord with the backing
of MARINTEK and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. This island isn't the usual sort of man-made one with landfill but rather a
high-tech structure that will house a new international ocean research hub to house a thousand researchers and five hundred students.

The development consists of two phases, the first of which will be a campus situated on part of Trondheim Harbour with a collection of futuristic
spaces rising above the ground and dock level like a group of concrete mushrooms that would make Ken Adams proud.

The other part of the scheme is perhaps more extraordinary and features a huge saucer with circular ocean walls to create a harbour in the middle
of the fjord allowing such things as hands-on lab space specialising in marine resources and the development of the arctic region. Of particular
importance here will be the deep-water facilities on hand to the researcher and a 3D flume tank to allow the accurate testing of waves and tides
on marine structures.

Dang, I need to read Adressa more often...I've never heard about this project. Are they going to redevelop the area on Nyhavna (the area on land) as well?

PS: Snĝhetta are the masters of design...case closed.

Yes, all of Nyhavna will be redeveloped, but nothing will begin construction untill what is there today is removed and that might take another decade or more...

Don't need adrĉssa when you have: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=998611

My first thought was that it looks like a Bond villain's headquarter.. but it's already been said.

Looks very cool. I like how it blends with the sea / fjord.
