國泰機師酒店撞爆眼角

【本報訊】國泰航空公司一名德國籍機師，昨日凌晨在東涌下榻的酒店房間，疑意外絆倒，頭撼衣櫃撞爆眼角，需送院治理。國泰立即調派其他機師頂替，航班服務未受影響。

該名德國籍機師（四十五歲）早前抵港，獲安排入住觀景路國泰城內一間專供外國機組人員居住的酒店。昨晨零時許，他在房內疑意外絆腳跌倒，再撼向衣櫃撞爆右眼角，血流如注，他負傷向酒店職員求助，救護員接報到場為事主包紮後送院，幸無傷及眼球，經治理後已無礙。國泰發言人稱，雖然有機師意外受傷，但其工作由其他同事頂替，昨日的航班服務未受事件影響。

Cathay Pacific boosts Mainland cargo presence with new freighter service to Zhengzhou

 Cathay Pacific Airways today announced the launch of a new twice-weekly freighter service to Zhengzhou, the capital city and principal commercial hub of Henan Province in Central China, with effect from 28 March 2012.

The latest destination in the Cathay Pacific freighter network will boost further the airline’s presence as a cargo carrier in Mainland China following the launch of services to Chengdu and Chongqing in Western China in the second half of 2011.

Cathay Pacific Director Cargo Nick Rhodes said: “We see great business potential in Zhengzhou which is one of the fastest-growing centres for electronics manufacturing in the Mainland and is well-connected to a wide catchment area in Henan. Cathay Pacific’s new freighter service will offer shippers seamless connections to our extensive global network through the Hong Kong hub, helping to connect Zhengzhou to the world.”

The Zhengzhou service will be operated by a Boeing 747 freighter and will follow a Hong Kong-Shanghai-Zhengzhou-Hong Kong routing.

Cathay Pacific is committed to expanding its freighter network and has been actively launching new destinations despite the recent softening of demand in the global airfreight industry. In addition to launching freighter services to Mainland China, Cathay Pacific added services to Bengaluru in India and Zaragoza in Spain last year.

Mr Rhodes added: “We are confident about the long-term success of Cathay Pacific’s cargo business and about Hong Kong’s future as an international air cargo hub. That’s why, in addition to launching new destinations, we are investing heavily in new freighters and also building our own HK$5.7 billion cargo terminal at Hong Kong International Airport which is on schedule to begin operations in early 2013.”

港龍工會爭加薪8%

【本報訊】聘有逾一千二百多名空勤人員的港龍航空，昨就今年加薪幅度與工會展開首輪談判，雙方暫未達成共識。工會提出加薪百分之八，並要求改善多項福利包括增設男士侍產假，但據悉資方認為工會要求加幅遠高於市場水平，難以接受。

國泰航機故障延誤3小時

【本報訊】國泰航機又報稱故障需延遲，累乘客苦候三小時。該班國泰航機原定昨午三時十分前往東京。有乘客在「微博」上稱，當乘客登機後，獲知因故障需延遲起飛，坦言：「機艙裏被關了三個小時，最後機長嘰哩呱啦解釋一輪，結論就是發現幾處故障無法修復，航班取消，甚麼爛飛機！」

另乘客批評稱：「第一次坐你的航班就遇到飛機故障，在飛機上等待三小時之後重新換乘！」

Not sure what the fuss is about, since there are so many flights to Taipei every day. If that hour delay can cause such a big business loss, and they can show that really occurred, then perhaps they can file a claim in court. Otherwise, the J upgrade and small token of cash sounds very reasonable, if not more than adequate.

「愚人節，大整蠱呀！」一對貿易公司東主夫婦，昨日前往台北傾生意兼提前享受復活節假期，他們抵達機場擬乘搭國泰航空公司客機，當辦理登機手續時，才獲職員告知機位爆滿，要求他們改搭下一班機，商人極為不滿。批評航空公司超賣機票，影響他洽談生意，幾經交涉，國泰只補償四百元，以及提升至商務客位，安排兩夫婦乘搭下班機啟程，但夫婦擔心因延誤損失二十萬元商機。

受超賣機票影響的商人姓余，從事貿易生意，昨日相約生意夥伴在台北洽談生意，由於復活節假期將臨，他與妻子同行陪伴傾談生意外，更順道遊覽寶島。余透過一間旅行社以八千七百元，購買五日四夜酒店連機票雙人套票。

昨晨八時許，兩夫婦抵達香港赤鱲角機場，準備乘搭十時十五分起飛的國泰航空公司班機前往台北，他們排隊辦理登機手續時，職員着兩人耐心等候，一小時後，職員才告知他們機位已經爆滿，要求他們改搭中午起飛的另一班機，或改乘另一間航空公司班機。
賠四百元 機位升呢

余聞言大表不滿，質問職員為何機票已確認，卻無法登機，並慨嘆「嘩，撞正愚人節，乜咁大整蠱呀！」余擔心若未能準時到達台北，會影響洽談生意，平白損失二十萬元。其後，航空公司提出四百元補償，並將兩人的經濟艙機位提升至商務客位，余氏夫婦才接受改搭中午起飛的班機前往台北。國泰航空公司發言人表示，超賣機票情況在業內是常見做法，但最終會安排無機位的乘客到目的地。

旅議會總幹事董耀中稱，因乘客改期情況時有發生，因此航空公司經常會超賣機票，若乘客受到影響，航空公司有責任作出補償。執業大律師陸偉雄指航空公司超賣機票存在已久，乘客以民事索償勝數機會較微，應盡量爭取更多補償。

Shanghai Airport Authority, Shanghai International Airport Co., Ltd., Air China Limited and Cathay Pacific Airways today announced the establishment of a joint venture company in Shanghai for the provision of airport ground handling services at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.

The joint venture company – Shanghai International Airport Services Co., Limited – will be 41% owned by Shanghai International Airport Co., Ltd and 10% by Shanghai Airport Authority which is the majority shareholder of Shanghai International Airport Co., Ltd. Air China and Cathay Pacific’s wholly owned subsidiary Hong Kong Airport Services Limited (“HAS”) will hold 24% and 25% of the joint venture company respectively.

Air China and HAS will contribute RMB86.4 million and RMB90 million in cash to the registered capital of the joint venture company for their respective 24% and 25% shareholding. Cathay Pacific and HAS will provide strategic management support to the joint venture company.

Shanghai Airport Authority and Shanghai International Airport Co., Ltd. will inject cash and their existing ground service equipment into the joint venture company as their contributions in kind in respect of their respective 10% and 41% shareholding in the joint venture company.

Shanghai Airport Authority and Shanghai International Airport Co., Ltd will facilitate to switch their existing airport ground handling services contracts, including those in respect of Cathay Pacific and its sister airline Dragonair, to the joint venture company. Air China will also transfer its relevant ground handling services business to the joint venture company at an appropriate time.

The existing ground handling services staff of Shanghai Airport Authority and Shanghai International Airport Co., Ltd. will be transferred to the new joint venture company to ensure the continuity of operations at both Pudong and Hongqiao airports.

Subject to approval by the relevant Chinese government authorities, the joint venture company is expected to commence operations in the third quarter of 2012.

The joint venture shareholders of Shanghai International Airport Services Co., Limited said: “The joint venture company established by Shanghai Airport Authority, Shanghai International Airport Co., Ltd, Air China and Cathay Pacific will leverage on the resources and management expertise of each of the shareholders to enhance the hub operations and efficiency of ground handling services at the two Shanghai airports, providing a solid platform for developing Shanghai into a key aviation hub in the Asia Pacific region.

“Using the extensive ground handling management experience of its shareholders, the joint venture company will deliver improved services to the airlines and passengers flying in and out of Shanghai airports, catering for the increasing demand for air passenger and cargo services in Shanghai and creating economic benefits for the whole community.”

國泰機壞引擎折返 348客驚慄句鐘

國泰航機乘客驚慄一小時！國泰航空一架由本港飛往巴黎的客機，前晚起飛二十二分鐘後，一個引擎據報發生故障，需立即折返，並須在半空盤旋一小時，卸下燃油才着陸，機上三百六十九名乘客及機組人員有驚無險，有乘客在「微博」指驚足一小時。

今次已是國泰半個月內第二宗九霄驚魂。引擎故障的國泰客機航班編號CX261，屬波音 747-400，前晚十一時四十五分，載着三百四十八名乘客及二十一名機組人員，由香港國際機場起飛前往法國巴黎。至昨晨零時七分，機師發現三號引擎發生故障，為安全起見，決定折返香港，即時知會香港機場地面控制塔及航空公司，機管局立即通知消防處，派出多輛消防車在跑道上戒備。

上月亦因引擎故障急降

據悉，在客機折返中途，需在半空卸去部分燃油，有乘客見飛機在空中盤旋，良久未能降落，擔心有意外，嚇得驚惶失措。至凌晨一時十五分，客機安全着陸，受影響乘客獲安排轉乘另一班於三時二十六分起飛的航班繼續行程。

有乘坐該航機的乘客在「脫險」後，透過互聯網「微博」細訴經歷，指當時情況「好恐怖」，原本開心到法國度生日，誰料遇上飛機故障，希望國泰改善。機管局發言人表示，當收到航空公司通知後，已即時通知相關部門戒備，事件對機場運作無影響。

國泰航空於上月十五日，亦有一架往加拿大多倫多的客機於起飛一個半小時後，因一個引擎故障，需折返香港急降。另於去年十二月二十四日，一架由倫敦飛本港的客機，飛行四小時後，駕駛艙冒煙須緊急降落莫斯科。剛於上周五亦有一班往東京的航機，在香港準備起飛時報稱故障需延遲，乘客在機艙苦候三小時後始獲通知需延至翌日才起飛。

Cathay clear of rocket flight path

Cathay Pacific has no plans to reroute flights in view of an upcoming rocket launch by North Korea.

This is because Cathay is confident that routes between Hong Kong and Japan and South Korea will be safely out of the flight path of the satellite- carrying rocket - set to be launched by Monday.

A Cathay spokesman said the decision came after internal meetings and talks with aviation authorities in countries the rocket is expected to overfly.

He also said Cathay is aware of plans by other airlines to reroute flights, but he emphasized its planes will not cross paths with the rocket.

"The flight routes from the Philippines or other Asian countries are different from our routes from Hong Kong to Japan or Korea," the spokesman said, adding that direct flights to seven destinations in Japan and two in South Korea will take off as usual.

A spokesman for China Airlines said its Hong Kong office has not received any specific guidelines from the mainland head office regarding the issue and there will not be any flight detours.

A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Department said it was not necessary to change any flight routes within 560 kilometers of the SAR and that the skies up to Taiwan are safe. And any decision to reroute outside this zone rested with individual airlines.

The Hong Kong checks came as three Asian airlines announced rerouting of some 20 flights due to the North Korean rocket plan, including a dozen Philippine Airlines flights to the United States, Japan and South Korea. Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways will also change routes from Tokyo to destinations such as Manila, Jakarta and Singapore.

The Philippine government has established a no- fly zone and also warned ships to stay clear of its northeast coast - the expected splashdown area of the second stage of the rocket.

I have just signed-up to be part of the Marco Polo club. Apparently there is limited to enjoy with for $50. You can't access the lounge, get standby upgrades, free excess luggage etc. But one can get a (semi)-dedicated check-in counter and priority boarding. At MNL and HKG, can you use the premium boarding lane even if you are Y (i.e. the one reserved for C) and enrolled in Marco Polo?

I personally don't think there's much value in paying for Marco Polo. You only get to use their dedicated check-in counters and Business Class queue for boarding (the signs will refer to Marco Polo, J, and F passengers for that queue). In HK, we can get free Marco Polo membership with CX's no-fee credit card (for the first year).
