It is not so good, in my opinion.
There's still a lot that needs to be done, and some things like the non-logical path that some lines follow, will never be fixed I'm afraid.

As for expanding lines, information on line 9
corresponds to the line 11 and vice versa

Give us some examples about what still needs to be done, I find it really up-to-date!

It is up to date. London has a much bigger network but there are so many areas uncovered. Madrid is full. I think Line 11 have to be extended to Atocha and maybe further to the north. That would be nice. Nevertheless Madrid has one of the best systems by coverage. And the work that have been done during the last 2-3 years was amazing

BTW is the south part of line 6 still under renovation?

No, is that ML2 and ML3 are lines of private property not belonging to Metro de Madrid

METRO MADRID - 90 YEARS OF HISTORY THROUGH THE NETWORK MAP (I)

Maps from the book METRO MADRID 1919-2009 NINETY YEARS OF HISTORY.
The comments and information about changes in the underground network and incidences have been made by the author of the message.

First section of the metro in Madrid, corresponding to line 1 and was opened in 1919.

The names of some of their stations do not correspond with their current, as shown below:
"Red de San Luis" is the current "Gran Via", which during the Franco period was "José Antonio".
"Hospicio" is the current "Tribunal"; here has changed the building overlooking the station name to "Antiguo Hospicio" (Old Hospice) with the name of another building nearby, the “Tribunal de Cuentas” (Court of Accounts).
"Chamberí" is a disused station, is there now a small museum located underground shows the appearance of the station at the time of the inauguration.
"Martínez Campos", the general was left with no station because the station now called “Iglesia” (church).

Line 1 was performed on stage "Sol" / "Puente de Vallecas", so what took the subway to the southern periphery.

Line 2 was opened to the section "Ventas" / "Quevedo", which took the subway from southeast to northwest through the center of town.

It also inaugurated the branch line 2 "Opera" / "Norte", which was always an independent short line which facilitated transportation to the North railway station, hence the name that appears on the map "Norte" although at the moment is "Principe Pio.

In 1935 no further action in line 1, is added the section "Cuatro Caminos" / "Tetuan" that takes the subway to the northern outskirts of Madrid.

In line 2 the new actions are: in the northeast adding a branch that goes from "Goya" on "Diego de León" and the northwest line is extended from "Quevedo" to "Cuatro Caminos". For a long time that was the longest stage of the Madrid metro.

Having finished the Spanish civil war in which the metro was a shelter to thousands of inhabitants of Madrid and suffered heavy damage, was inaugurated a short stretch of line 3, which ranged from "Sol" to "Embajadores".

In 1945 the line 3 is wide of the tranche "Sol" / "Argüelles" and inaugurated the new line 4 from "Goya" and also ending in "Argüelles". With this new line is covering the east-west.

The performances of 1950 are:

In line 3 will inaugurated the section "Embajadores" / "Delicias", which takes the subway to the south.

In line 4 is added to the branch "Goya" / "Diego de León" which formerly belonged to the line 2, thus leaving the line to start on "Diego de León" and ending in "Argüelles".

In 1955 is inaugurated the section "Delicias" / "Legázpi" in line 3.

After a waiting period of twelve years, 1967 will inaugurate the following actions:

A) The metro branch called "Suburbano" which brings the novelty of elapse surface through the large park rustic "Casa de Campo". His itinerary allows you to travel from the city center, "Plaza de España," one of its ends at the time, "Aluche". Another novelty of the "Suburbano" is its pedestrian connection to line 2 in "Noviciado" for which used a giant escalator to save the large gap between the street of San Bernardo and square of Spain. Escalator now no longer exists.

B) Line 1 is extended at both ends, to the north with the section "Tetuan" / "Plaza de Castilla" and the south with the tranche "Puente de Vallecas" / "Portazgo".

C) Line 3 is extended with the section "Argüelles" / "Moncloa".

D) It opened two sections of the new Line 5, on the east the section "Ciudad Lineal" / "Ventas" and the southwest stretch "Carabanchel" / "Aluche" where he would join the new line of "Suburbano". These two lines coincide in an elevated station, also new concept in Madrid, and in which each of the trains occupying one of the two routes, returning by the same who had gone.

METRO MADRID - 90 YEARS OF HISTORY THROUGH THE NETWORK MAP (II)

After 1967, we must go back to 1978 to discuss the following Opened in the Madrid metro

This year sees the expansion of a section of line 4 "Diego de León" / "Avenida de America."
The central end of line 5 with a long stretch "Ventas" / "Carabanchel.
And the opening of its new line 7 with the tranche "Avenida de America" / "The Muses".

A year later, in 1979, inaugurates a new section of line 4, "Alfonso XIII" / "Esperanza".
Also inaugurated the first section of line 6, "Cuatro Caminos" / "Pacifico".

In 1980 there is a further extension of the line 5 to the northeast, the section "Ciudad Lineal" / "Canillejas".
and opens the first section of the new line 9, "Sainz de Baranda" / "Pavones”.

The line 6 is extended with the new section "Pacifico" / "Laguna".
Inauguration of a first tranche of the line 8, "Nuevos Ministerios" / "Fuencarral.
Opening of the line 9b, with the section "Herrera Oria" / "Avenida de America," which would end someday joining the stretch "Sainz de Baranda" / "Pavones”.
The line called "Suburban" would become the new line 10, which was added to the section "Plaza of Spain" / "Alonso Martínez”.

In 1991 the line 1 has a new station "Atocha Renfe" built to serve the renovated train station Atocha.
The line 6 has a new section: "Cuatro Caminos" / "Ciudad Universitaria".
Also expanded with new section line 8: "Nuevos Ministerios" / "Avenida de America."
The line 9 is attached at its two extrmos, thanks to the new central section "Avenida de America" / "Sainz de Baranda".
