BODRUM | Projects & Construction

Bodrum, Turkey

Bodrum is a Turkish port town in Muğla Province, in the southwestern Aegean Region of the country. It is located on the southern coast of Bodrum Peninsula, at a point that checks the entry into the Gulf of Gökova, and it faces the Greek island of Kos.

Today, it is an international center of tourism and yachting. The city was called Halicarnassus of Caria in ancient times. The Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was here.

Bodrum Castle, built by the Crusaders in the 15th century, overlooks the harbor and the International Marina. The castle grounds includes a Museum of Underwater Archeology and hosts several cultural festivals throughout the year.

This looks very nice and well maintained. And not tacky at all.

Horizon Point

Quote:
Horizon Point is a residential development in Bodrum, Turkey, set on a hillside approximately 65m above sea level overlooking downtown Bodrum. The site is characterized by beautiful views of the sea, with unobstructed views of the Bodrum Castle. Horizon point consists of 19 residential units with a shared spa, gym and pool complex.
GAD’s proposal responds to the most pressing challenges inherent to this site, which include a sloping triangular site with strict building setback requirements. The solution focuses on two base building types, modified slightly to respond to their specific location on the site. The project consists of 7 buildings on the site, each a variation on the two base prototypes. The first type consists of a flat on the lower level, and two duplex units above. The second type consists of two flats.
Conceptually, each building units must provide a high level of privacy, despite the dense arrangement of buildings on the site, while also providing unobstructed views of the sea. Therefore, the base prototype is organized around 4 modules, each 8m X 16m. A building consists of 4 modules, wrapped on 3 sides by a thickened stone wall, providing the necessary privacy for the units and also serving to organize the external circulation between the units. Sliding wood screens & canopies contribute a third layer of detail, and serve as protection from the intense summer sun.
Horizon Point, therefore, arrives at a solution that addresses the fundamental challenges inherent to the site, and meets the challenge by proposing a unique architectural solution in Bodrum.

FGA

The Fga resort project is a proposal for the redevelopment of a site located on the outskirts of downtown Bodrum, Turkey. Fga resort currently operates a complex of short-term and long-terms residential units on the site, operating primarily in the summer months. GAD was approached by the client to develop a solution for a mixed-use development, with a boutique hotel and private residences occupied thru-out the year. Therefore, the Fga site will serve a new market in Bodrum, while maintaining the legacy of the previous development.
The Fga proposal envisions a woven landscape, organized relative to the natural landscape and existing trees on the site. An affordable hotel is located at the entry to the site, along with a general reception area for the site. The site slopes naturally down to the Mediterranean Sea, where a luxury boutique hotel, restaurant, and spa & gym are located along the waterfront. 37 residential units occupy the space between, and are organized along the woven landscape walls terracing down the hill. Multiple routes are provided from the site’s entry point to the waterfront, including car drop-off service to the base of the site, as well as a mechanical lift assisting in the steep climb to the top of the site.
The hotel at the top of the site consists of a pair of stacked volumes, one a mirror of the other. A green roof terrace occupies the roof of the entry volume, providing for elevated views to downtown Bodrum.
The complex at the base of the site includes a boutique hotel with 28 rooms, a restaurant, spa & gym, and waterfront fish restaurant. This structure is a landscape proposal, and seeks to disappear into the hillside, drawing less attention to the buildings as objects. The roof for each structure provides for terraces, pools, and landscaped gardens.
Thus, the Fga proposal is a synthesis of the inherent natural beauty on the site, and the unique desires of the client to provide an escape on the southern coast of Turkey.
