I've a question: someone knows the total length of the London area rail network, with Overground, Thameslink, Crossrail and all private rails (that can be used with the Oyster card) included?

Back hoes are cute in timelapse.

What is that hole being dug in the foreground? Is it a link to the Tube station?

Imagine trudging to work on a cold wet winter's day and seeing this depressing visage?

Completely soulless, uninspired, pointless, depressing and horrible...

Did I mention I don't like it btw?

Search starts for HS2 Euston development partner

The hunt is set to start this Spring for a developer to deliver the wholesale regeneration of land around Euston railway station as part of the plan for a HS2 terminus at the site.

The Department for Transport and Network Rail have started testing the market ahead of inviting bids for a development opportunity said to run to several million square feet, including extensive over-station commercial development, as well as new homes and public facilities.

The vast redevelopment project is expected to run for more than 20 years and will have to accommodate still changing plans for the HS2 terminus.

Presently, the first six high speed lines are expected be built to the west of the station by 2026, with a second five lines built within the station by 2033.

HS2 line construction to start in weeks after royal assent

Work should begin on Britain’s new 225mph high-speed railway line within weeks after it received royal assent on Thursday.

The go-ahead for the 22bn London to Birmingham railway line follows three years of scrutiny, including parliamentary hearings for 1,600 of the 2,588 objections to the scheme and a failed eleventh-hour bid to defeat the project in the House of Lords last month.

Phase one from London to Birmingham is scheduled to open in December 2026, with a second Y-shaped phase launching in two stages with a total bill estimated at 56bn.

Chris Grayling, transport secretary, acknowledged it had been a “long and arduous process” but pointed to the creation of 25,000 jobs during construction as well as 2,000 apprenticeships.

The British Pullman Company split off in the 19th Century, long before it became "Pullman-Standard" in the US. Notably, they mostly operated day cars in the Isles. They were bought out by Wagon Lits (of Orient Express fame) at the turn of the century, and served as the day services brand for trains on the continent. Eventually, the British operations were nationalized along with the rest of the railways after WWII, and the brand faded into oblivion in the 1960s.
