I think that its time to remind everyone of what the Soviet Union said when the Berlin Wall came down: "Well, that seems like a sensible idea."

Canary Wharf Crossrail station can fit the 1 Canada Square tower (the tall one in that cluster) inside it with room to spare.

They plan on giving a capacity boost by lengthening to over 240m (11 carriages) at some point.

I just noticed today at Romford Station, some of the soon to be TFL Rail train carriages has changed its colour scheme. Blue bottom border similar to Overground and white all over. The door will be the small colour blue as the bottom border. That's just the exterior. Interior will still be the same dull colour I guess.

Ghost station uncovered as Thameslink team tackles Victorian viaduct in Bermondsey
Monday 20 Apr 2015

Greg Thornett, Project Manager, looks at the remains of Southwark Park station, hidden in the catacombs under the railway in Bermondsey

Old platform footings uncovered from the long-lost Southwark Park station

Bermondsey Dive Under artist's impression

The ghostly remains of a long-lost South London railway station – closed 100 years ago - have been uncovered by engineers constructing the Bermondsey Dive Under, as part of the Thameslink Programme.

Southwark Park station, perched on a viaduct above Rotherhithe New Road, only served passengers from 1902 to 1915 before it closed for good.

Now engineers working on a massive project to rebuild the railway in Bermondsey have rediscovered the former ticket hall and platforms

It's normal in services as crossrail or densely surburban rails. In Buenos Aires for example the Sarmiento Line use 9 car trains.

I was reading up on the Epping-Ongar Railway and I was thinking about how to restore service for commuters.

One of the reasons for low patronage was that it was always a shuttle to Epping.

I was thinking that maybe the Turbostars from GOBLIN could be moved over, and the track connection at Leytonstone reinstated to allow service down to Stratford High Level. Trains would run express from Epping, and terminate at Stratford. Maybe 2 trains an hour, with a half-hour run time?

There was a reason it was a shuttle to Epping: it served almost no one. It made the Woodford-Hainault section look busy!

And there's no way that express services could fit in the gaps in the intensive stopping service, especially between Leytonstone and Leyton (which is where the first place you could reinstate a track connection).

GOOD PROGRESS BEING MADE ON CROSSRAIL’S SURFACE WORKS
Thursday 23rd April 2015

The programme to prepare the existing rail network for Crossrail continues to make good progress, with work on the route’s surface section now more than one third complete

In the coming months, major improvements will get underway at a number of stations in outer London which will be completely rebuilt or significantly improved, providing passengers with new, more spacious, brighter ticket halls, longer platforms and new lifts.

Major works to have been completed in recent months by Network Rail in outer London, Berkshire, South Buckinghamshire and Essex include:
  • The completion of the first section of the Stockley Flyover, a huge new rail bridge at the junction to Heathrow which will further increase capacity in this busy section of railway.
  • Further trackwork around the Acton Diveunder, a short tunnel beneath the railway that will ensure that trains leaving a nearby freight yard do not delay passenger trains into London. Work to the diveunder is now entering the final stages.
  • The implementation of a new, modern signalling system between Heathrow Junction and Reading which will improve reliability and support the future operation of Crossrail services on the Great Western Main Line.
  • The opening of a temporary station at Abbey Wood, while the existing station is demolished and a new one built. Network Rail has also started to lay more than one mile of track between Abbey Wood and Crossrail’s new tunnel portal at Plumstead.
  • The installation of a new turnback facility at Chadwell Heath, alongside track upgrades and work to the overhead power cables.
  • The start of work at Harold Wood, Brentwood and Shenfield stations.
