I actually like Abuja. As I said in the previous thread, it's difficult and often dumb to compare cities that evolved differently. Abuja is what it is, a purpose built capital... thus why I kept saying it needs to measure up against places like Brasilia and Canberra. But I do not think they're doing too shoddy of a job of it.

Matthias, have you seen the infrastructure in the US?
In a lot of cities it looks like a Thirdworld country, roads with holes, not maintaned, old bridges on the brink of collapse etc You will find also the same problems in some regions in Belgium, Italy, Greece, French etc Last edited by Mister79; February 12th, 2010 at 05:51 PM. |

Abuja is frightfully boring if it has state-of the art university campuses, Western style hospitals, opera houses, theater & musical halls with striking design, around 10 really top-notch malls to speak of, around 20 luxury hotels and a decent CBD with glitzy high-rises, countless beautiful restaurants bars, lounges, a decent theme park ...I will stop my criticism but I am not sure if that will happen in our lifetime....construction in Nigeria is moving a snail´s pace....in China hyper-modern cities are erected whereas in Naija they still haven´t laid the foundation stone of a simple 50 F high-rise. Ridiculous. Rdokoye, none of my relatives would change their lives in London, a true global city , for a life in boring government-like Abuja. One who is a successful property manager has recently moved into a posh loft appartment close to Notting Hill. The fact that you still remain glued to the UK shows me that you don´t seem to believe that much in the words that you so feverishly voice within the context of this forum here. |

The thing i figured out on the african forum is that anything nigeria is always perceived negative, matthias abuja is a clean city, most streets in the u.s have bad roads, some highways can bust ur tires while driving. Stop this bashing of abuja, we had this argument before in other threads, abuja is not competing with any city, paddo just want to bring it out to the spot light. Abuja cant belondon its abuja. lagos cant look like bangkok, jarkarta or cape town, lagos is lagos an africanized centralized city.
stop this matthias u are getting more ridiculous. |

Abuja looks like Brasilia in some ways, well planned, orderly, clean highest standards of living in the country, but also seem very non pedestrian friendly and dull. I think that's fair criticism.

on the bcc,one lady said it was to orderly and boring,i got to laugh,anyway some folks showed her where the party really was at .so there seems to be another side of the city that is not talked about as much. Last edited by kenndo; February 12th, 2010 at 09:34 PM. |

I don't understand the people here saying that the roads of Abuja are dirty; the roads look decent to attractive! Based on the pics that I see in this forum, the roads look A LOT better than some of the roads here in the USA and keep in mind that I live in one of the wealthiest counties in the entire USA (Nassau County). Here is a major roadway on Long Island, NY;
![]() (riding on this road can be very uncomfortable and bumpy at times and it is not well maintained in my opinion) As you can see some of the roads in Abuja look a lot nicer..... I don't understand why there are so many negative comments being made about Abuja, the roads look fairly well. I think people are letting disputes with other members get in the way of giving credit where credit is due. Last edited by Abidrovia; February 12th, 2010 at 09:38 PM. |
